Joshua said to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh,“ Remember what Moses the LORD’s servant commanded you when he said,‘ The LORD your God will give you rest, and he will give you this land.’Your wives, dependents, and livestock may remain in the land Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But your best soldiers must cross over in battle formation ahead of your brothers and help themuntil the LORD gives your brothers rest, as he has given you, and they too possess the land the LORD your God is giving them. You may then return to the land of your inheritance and take possession of what Moses the LORD’s servant gave you on the east side of the Jordan.”They answered Joshua,“ Everything you have commanded us we will do, and everywhere you send us we will go.We will obey you, just as we obeyed Moses in everything. Certainly the LORD your God will be with you, as he was with Moses.Anyone who rebels against your order and does not obey your words in all that you command him, will be put to death. Above all, be strong and courageous!”

and I gave to the Reubenites and Gadites the area extending from Gilead to the Arnon Valley( the middle of the valley was the border) and up to the Jabbok River, the border of the Ammonites.The Arabah and Jordan are also borders from Chinnereth as far as the Sea of the Arabah, the Dead Sea, under the slopes of Pisgah on the east.“ I commanded you at that time: The LORD your God has given you this land to possess. All your valiant men will cross over in battle formation ahead of your brothers the Israelites.But your wives, dependents, and livestock— I know that you have a lot of livestock— will remain in the cities I have given youuntil the LORD gives rest to your brothers as he has to you, and they also take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving them across the Jordan. Then each of you may return to his possession that I have given you.

Moses replied to them,“ If you do this— if you arm yourselves for battle before the LORD,and every one of your armed men crosses the Jordan before the LORD until he has driven his enemies from his presence,and the land is subdued before the LORD— afterward you may return and be free from obligation to the LORD and to Israel. And this land will belong to you as a possession before the LORD.But if you don’t do this, you will certainly sin against the LORD; be sure your sin will catch up with you.Build cities for your dependents and pens for your flocks, but do what you have promised.”The Gadites and Reubenites answered Moses,“ Your servants will do just as my lord commands.Our dependents, wives, livestock, and all our animals will remain here in the cities of Gilead,but your servants are equipped for war before the LORD and will go across to the battle as my lord orders.”So Moses gave orders about them to the priest Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun, and the family heads of the Israelite tribes.Moses told them,“ If the Gadites and Reubenites cross the Jordan with you, every man in battle formation before the LORD, and the land is subdued before you, you are to give them the land of Gilead as a possession.
