Was not the sin of Peor enough for us? Up to this very day we have not cleansed ourselves from that sin, even though a plague fell on the community of the Lord!

Don’t you remember how we sinned at Peor? The Lord struck us with a plague because of what we did. Up to this day we’re still suffering because of that sin.

Have we not had enough of the sin at Peor from which even yet we have not cleansed ourselves, and for which there came a plague upon the congregation of the Lord,

The sin we committed at Peor was bad enough. To this very day we have not purified ourselves; it even brought a plague on the community of the LORD.

你们已亲眼看见耶和华因巴力‧毗珥所做的。凡随从巴力‧毗珥的人，耶和华—你的上帝都从你中间除灭了。只有你们这紧紧跟随耶和华—你们上帝的人，今日全都存活。

以色列人住在什亭，百姓开始与摩押女子行淫。这些女子请百姓一同为她们的神明献祭，百姓吃了祭物，跪拜她们的神明。以色列与巴力‧毗珥联合，耶和华的怒气就向以色列发作。耶和华对摩西说：“拿下百姓中所有的领袖，对着太阳把他们悬挂在我面前，使我向以色列所发的怒气可以平息。”于是摩西对以色列的审判官说：“你们的人若有与巴力‧毗珥联合的，你们各人就要把他们杀了。”摩西和以色列全会众在会幕门口哭泣的时候，看哪，有一个以色列人，在他们眼前带着一个米甸女子，到他弟兄那里。亚伦祭司的孙子，以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈看见了，就从会众中起来，手里拿着枪，跟这以色列人进入帐棚，刺穿了二人，就是以色列人和那女子的肚腹。这样，以色列人遭受的瘟疫就停止了。遭瘟疫死的，有二万四千人。耶和华吩咐摩西说：“亚伦祭司的孙子，以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈，使我的愤怒转离以色列人，因为在他们中间，他以我的妒忌为他的妒忌，使我不在妒忌中毁灭以色列人。因此，你要说：‘看哪，我将我平安的约赐给他。这是他和他的后裔永远当祭司职任的约，因他为了上帝而妒忌，他为以色列人赎罪。’”那与米甸女子一起被杀的以色列人，名叫心利，是撒路的儿子，是西缅一个父家的领袖。那被杀的米甸女子，名叫哥斯比，是苏珥的女儿；苏珥是米甸一个父家的领袖。耶和华吩咐摩西说：“你要苦害米甸人，击杀他们；因为他们用诡计苦害你们，在毗珥的事上和他们的姊妹，米甸领袖的女儿哥斯比的事上，欺骗了你们；在瘟疫的日子，这女子因毗珥的事件被杀了。”

他们又与巴力‧毗珥连合，吃了祭死人的物。他们这样行，惹耶和华发怒，就有瘟疫流行在他们中间。

这些事发生在他们身上，要作为鉴戒，而且写下来正是要警戒我们这末世的人。

我们也不可犯奸淫，像他们中有些人曾经犯过，一天就倒毙了二万三千人。

我们因自己的恶行和大罪，遭遇这一切的事，但你—我们的上帝惩罚我们轻于我们罪所当得的，又为我们留下这些残存之民。我们岂可再违背你的诫命，与行这些可憎之事的民族结亲呢？若我们这样行，你岂不向我们发怒，将我们灭绝，以致没有一个余民或残存之民吗？
