So the Israelites sent Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, to the land of Gilead— to Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

First, however, they sent a delegation led by Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, to talk with the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh.

And Eleazar Aaron’s son took him[ one] of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and she bare him Phinehas: these[ are] the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families.

Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and[ so] the plague was stayed.And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.

And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days,) saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And the LORD said, Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver them into thine hand.

Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:And he shall have it, and his seed after him,[ even] the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness[ is] this that is done among you?

[ Every] purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

Debate thy cause with thy neighbour[ himself]; and discover not a secret to another:Lest he that heareth[ it] put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.A word fitly spoken[ is like] apples of gold in pictures of silver.[ As] an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold,[ so is] a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.As the cold of snow in the time of harvest,[ so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold,[ if it be] truth,[ and] the thing certain,[ that] such abomination is wrought among you;
