So the Israelites sent Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, to the land of Gilead— to Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

The Israelites sent Phinehas the priest to the land of Gilead. Phinehas was the son of Eleazar. They sent him to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh.

Then the people of Israel sent to the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,

First, however, they sent a delegation led by Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, to talk with the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh.

“亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈，使我的烈怒稍消，不向以色列人發作，因為他在他們中間以我忌邪的心為心，使我不因我忌邪的心把他們消滅。因此你要說：‘現在我把平安之約賜給他，要給他和他的後裔作為永遠擔當祭司職分的約，因為他為他的神有忌邪的心，為以色列人贖罪。’”

以色列各支派打發人到便雅憫的各家去，說：“你們中間怎麼發生了這樣的惡事呢？

計劃要有籌算才能確立；作戰也要倚靠智謀。

如果有紛爭，只與你的鄰舍一人爭論好了；不可揭發別人的祕密，恐怕聽見的人辱罵你，你的惡名就不能脫掉。一句話說得合宜，就像金蘋果鑲在銀的器物上。智慧人的責備在聽從的人耳中，好像金耳環和精金的飾物。忠信的使者對那些差遣他的人來說，好像在收割的時候，有冰雪的涼氣，使主人精神舒暢。

你就要調查、研究，仔細訪問，如果的確有這可厭惡的事行在你們中間，
