When they came to Geliloth near the Jordan in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an imposing altar there by the Jordan.

And when they came to the region of the Jordan that is in the land of Canaan, the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, an altar of imposing size.

But while they were still in Canaan, and when they came to a place called Geliloth near the Jordan River, the men of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh stopped to build a large and imposing altar.

以是言錄於上帝律例册、立大石於橡下、近耶和華聖室。告民曰、我儕以此石為憑、耶和華所諭我者、斯石聞之、如爾違爾上帝、可以此石為憑。

雅各夙興、以所枕石立為柱、沃膏其上。

耶和華置約但為界於爾我間、爾曹流便伽得二支派、與耶和華無與、如是爾後嗣、將使我後嗣不畏耶和華。故我儕曰、不如築壇、非為燔祭、祀品、但在爾我間、及爾後代我後代間為證、使我役事耶和華、獻燔祭禮物、酬恩之祭於其前、則爾子孫不得謂我子孫云、汝與耶和華無與。故我曰、嗣後如有人以此言委我、或我子孫、則我可語、試視我祖所作耶和華壇之式、非為燔祭祀品、乃在爾我間為證。

亦謂戚族曰、爾可積石、乃群取石、積累為崗、共食於其上。拉班名之曰亦甲撒哈土大、雅各名之曰迦列、拉班曰、爾我間以此崗為憑、故亦名曰迦列。又名密士巴、蓋曰、爾我相暌隔時、耶和華為眷佑。爾若負吾女、別有所娶、人雖不知、而上帝監之。拉班謂雅各曰、可觀此崗、爾我間所立之柱。此崗此柱可為憑、我不越此崗害爾、爾亦不越此崗害我。

當行於爾上帝耶和華法匱前、至約但河中、各以肩荷石、循以色列支派之數。此可為徵於爾中、越至後日、倘爾子孫詰爾曰、斯石何意、必曰、昔耶和華法匱、濟約但時、於其前河水絕流、此石為誌、使以色列族永憶勿忘。以色列族、在約但河中、取石十二、循以色列族支派之數、攜石至宿所、置之、遵耶和華所諭約書亞之命。約書亞又置石十二於約但河中、舁法匱之祭司足所履之處、迄今尚存。
