When they came to Geliloth near the Jordan in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an imposing altar there by the Jordan.

The tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh came to Geliloth. It was near the Jordan River in the land of Canaan. They built a large altar there by the Jordan.

And when they came to the region of the Jordan that is in the land of Canaan, the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, an altar of imposing size.

But while they were still in Canaan, and when they came to a place called Geliloth near the Jordan River, the men of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh stopped to build a large and imposing altar.

如便人、迦得人哪，永恆主立約但河在我們與你們之間為界限；你們對於永恆主是沒有分的了」；這樣，你們的子孫就使我們的子孫不再敬畏永恆主了。因此我們說：「我們來築座祭壇吧！不是為了獻燔祭，也不是為了獻別的祭，乃是為了做證據，在我們與你們之間做證據，也在你我以後的世代之間、做證據，好使我們也可以在永恆主面前用我們的燔祭、和別的祭、跟平安祭來事奉永恆主，免得你們的子孫日後對我們的子孫說：『你們對於永恆主沒有分了。』」因此我們說：日後他們若對我們或我們的後代這樣說，我們就可以說：「你們看我們先祖所造的永恆主祭壇的模型，這並不是為了獻燔祭，也不是為了獻別的祭，乃是為了在我們與你們之間做證據啊。」

拉班又對他的族弟兄們說：『撿石頭！』他們就拿石頭作成一堆，大家就在那裏，在那一堆旁邊，喫喝。拉班將它叫做伊迦爾撒哈杜他；雅各卻把它叫做迦累得。拉班說：『今天、這一堆是你我之間的證據』；於是給它起名叫迦累得。又叫米斯巴，就是，他說，『我們隔別、彼此不見面時願永恆主在你我之間也鑒察』。你若是苦待我的女兒，若是在我的女兒以外、另娶些妻子、而沒有同我們在一起，，看哪，上帝就是你我之間的見證。』拉班對雅各說：『你看這一堆；你看我所立在你我之間的這聖柱。這堆做證據，聖柱做證據：我決不越過這堆去害你，你也決不越過這堆和聖柱來害我。

約書亞對他們說：『你們要過去、到約但河中，在永恆主你們的上帝的櫃前面，按着以色列人十二族派的數目，每人把一塊石頭扛在肩膀上，這石頭好在你們中間做記號；日後你們的子孫若問說：「這些石頭對於你們有甚麼意思？」你們就可以對他們說：「是因為約但河的水從永恆主的約櫃前面截斷了；當櫃過約但河的時候，約但河的水截斷了，故此這些石頭要給以色列人做記念物、直到永遠。」』以色列人就照約書亞所吩咐的這樣去行；他們照永恆主所告訴約書亞的、按以色列人族派的數目、從約但河中間、拿起十二塊石頭來，帶着過河，到住宿的地方，就放在那裏。約書亞把十二塊石頭立在約但河中間，在抬約櫃的祭司的腳站立的地方；直到今日、那些石頭還在那裏。
