二人就對她說：『以下這幾件事你總要行，不然、你叫我們起的誓就與我們無干了。

二人曰、爾使我所發之誓、我必守之而無咎、

二人曰、爾既用絳索以縋我、必以此索、仍繫於牖、集爾父母兄弟戚屬、至於斯室、厥後我儕至斯土、則爾使我所發之誓、我必恪守。

二人對曰、爾使我所發之誓、我必守之而不失信、

Now the men had said to her,“ This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us

The spies had said to her,“ You made us give our word. But we won’t keep our promise

The men said to her,“ We will be guiltless with respect to this oath of yours that you have made us swear.

Before they left, the men told her,“ We will be bound by the oath we have taken only if you follow these instructions.

The men said to her,“ We will be free from this oath you made us swear,

And the men said to her,“ We shall be exempt from this oath to you which you have made us swear,

So the men said to her:“ We will be blameless of this oath of yours which you have made us swear,

And the men said unto her, We will be guiltless of this thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

And the men said unto her, We[ will be] blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.

The men said to her,“ We are not bound by this oath you made us swear unless the following conditions are met:

The men said to her,“ We will be guiltless of this your oath which you’ve made us to swear.

“ You must not steal. You must not act deceptively or lie to one another.You must not swear falsely by My name, profaning the name of your God; I am Yahweh.

When a man makes a vow to the Lord or swears an oath to put himself under an obligation, he must not break his word; he must do whatever he has promised.

David spared Mephibosheth, the son of Saul’s son Jonathan, because of the oath of the Lord that was between David and Jonathan, Saul’s son.

During David’s reign there was a famine for three successive years, so David inquired of the Lord. The Lord answered,“ It is because of the blood shed by Saul and his family when he killed the Gibeonites.”The Gibeonites were not Israelites but rather a remnant of the Amorites. The Israelites had taken an oath concerning them, but Saul had tried to kill them in his zeal for the Israelites and Judah. So David summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them.

Do not misuse the name of the Lord your God, because the Lord will not leave anyone unpunished who misuses His name.

and I will have you swear by the Lord, God of heaven and God of earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites among whom I live,but will go to my land and my family to take a wife for my son Isaac.”The servant said to him,“ Suppose the woman is unwilling to follow me to this land? Should I have your son go back to the land you came from?”Abraham answered him,“ Make sure that you don’t take my son back there.The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and from my native land, who spoke to me and swore to me,‘ I will give this land to your offspring’— He will send His angel before you, and you can take a wife for my son from there.If the woman is unwilling to follow you, then you are free from this oath to me, but don’t let my son go back there.”
