As the men started on their way to map out the land, Joshua instructed them,“ Go and make a survey of the land and write a description of it. Then return to me, and I will cast lots for you here at Shiloh in the presence of the Lord.”

約書亞就在示羅永恆主面前給他們抓鬮；約書亞在那裏照分配辦法將地分給以色列人。

就禱告說：『主啊，你是知道萬人之心的，求你從這兩人中、指明你所揀選的那位，使他取得這執事職任的地位，就是使徒職分的位置；這位分猶大已經悖棄，往自己的地方去了。』便為他們作鬮；鬮拈中了馬提亞，馬提亞就算和那十一位使徒同列了。

以色列人全會眾都聚集在示羅，把會棚立在那裏；那地在他們面前被征服了。

你們要將地繪畫成七分，把圖拿到我這裏來；我要在這裏、永恆主我們的上帝面前、給你們拈鬮。

掃羅說：『永恆主以色列的上帝啊，你今天為甚麼不回答你僕人呢？這罪孽如果是在我或我兒子約拿單，永恆主以色列的上帝啊，求你給「烏陵」吧；但這罪孽如果是在你人民以色列，那麼、永恆主以色列的上帝啊，求你給「土明」吧。』於是約拿單和掃羅被拈着；人民就出脫無事了。

以下這些地方是以色列人在迦南地所承受的產業，就是祭司以利亞撒、和嫩的兒子約書亞、跟以色列人的支派父系家屬的首領所分給他們的；是照永恆主由摩西經手所吩咐、按他們產業所拈的鬮分給九個支派、和半個支派的。

你起來，縱橫走遍這地，因為我都要賜給你。』

約書亞清早起來，叫以色列人按着族派走近前來；他就拈着了猶大族派；他叫猶大家族走近前來，就拈着了謝拉家族；他叫謝拉家族按着人丁一個一個走近前來，就拈着了撒底；他叫撒底的家室、按着人丁一個一個走近前來，就拈着了亞干：就是屬猶大支派的、謝拉的曾孫、撒底的孫子、迦米的兒子。

猶大人的支派、按家族拈鬮所得的地是延到以東邊界，向南直到尋的曠野、南方的儘邊。

現在你要把這地分給九個族派、和瑪拿西半個族派為產業。』
