As the men started on their way to map out the land, Joshua instructed them,“ Go and make a survey of the land and write a description of it. Then return to me, and I will cast lots for you here at Shiloh in the presence of the Lord.”

約書亞就在示羅，耶和華面前，為他們拈鬮。約書亞在那裏，按着以色列人的支派，將地分給他們。

眾人就禱告說：「主啊，你知道萬人的心，求你從這兩個人中，指明你所揀選的是誰，叫他得這使徒的位分。這位分猶大已經丟棄，往自己的地方去了。」

以色列的全會眾都聚集在示羅，把會幕設立在那裏，那地已經被他們制伏了。

你們要將地分做七分，寫明了拿到我這裏來。我要在耶和華－我們神面前，為你們拈鬮。

掃羅禱告耶和華－以色列的神說：「求你指示實情。」於是掣籤掣出掃羅和約拿單來；百姓盡都無事。

以色列人在迦南地所得的產業，就是祭司以利亞撒和嫩的兒子約書亞，並以色列各支派的族長所分給他們的，都記在下面，是照耶和華藉摩西所吩咐的，把產業拈鬮分給九個半支派。

你起來，縱橫走遍這地，因為我必把這地賜給你。」

於是，約書亞清早起來，使以色列人按着支派近前來，取出來的是猶大支派；使猶大支派近前來，就取了謝拉的宗族；使謝拉的宗族，按着家室人丁，一個一個地近前來，取出來的是撒底；使撒底的家室，按着人丁，一個一個地近前來，就取出猶大支派的人謝拉的曾孫，撒底的孫子，迦米的兒子亞干。

猶大支派按着宗族拈鬮所得之地是在儘南邊，到以東的交界，向南直到尋的曠野。

現在你要把這地分給九個支派和瑪拿西半個支派為業。」
