As the men started on their way to map out the land, Joshua instructed them,“ Go and make a survey of the land and write a description of it. Then return to me, and I will cast lots for you here at Shiloh in the presence of the Lord.”

约书亚就在示罗，在耶和华面前为他们抽签；约书亚在那里按着他们的支派把地分给以色列人。

就祷告说：“主啊！你知道万人的心，求你从这两个人中，指明你要拣选谁，来承担这使徒的职位和工作。这职位犹大已经放弃，往他自己的地方去了。”大家就为他们抽签，结果抽中了马提亚，他就与十一使徒同列。

以色列全体会众聚集在示罗，把会幕竖立在那里，因为那地在他们面前被征服了。

你们要把地划分七份，然后把图样拿给我；我要在这里，在耶和华我们的神面前，为你们抽签。

扫罗祷告耶和华以色列的神说：“求你指示实情！”于是抽签，抽中了约拿单和扫罗；众民都没事。

以下这些地方是以色列人在迦南地分得的产业，就是以利亚撒祭司和嫩的儿子约书亚，以及以色列人各支派的族长分给他们的，是照着耶和华藉着摩西所吩咐的，以抽签的方法把产业分给九个半支派。

你起来，纵横走遍这地，因为我必把这地赐给你。”

约书亚清早起来，要以色列人按着支派前来；结果，犹大支派被抽签抽中了；他要犹大宗族前来，结果，谢拉的家族被抽签抽中了；他要谢拉家族的男丁一个一个前来，结果，撒底被抽签抽中了；他要撒底家中的男丁一个一个前来，结果，亚干被抽签抽中了，亚干是迦米的儿子、撒底的孙子、谢拉的曾孙，是属于犹大支派的。

犹大支派按着家族抽签所得的地业，是极南的部分，达到以东的边境，去到南边寻的旷野。

现在你要把这地分给九个支派和玛拿西半个支派作产业。”
