This was the allotment for the tribe of Manasseh as Joseph’s firstborn, that is, for Makir, Manasseh’s firstborn. Makir was the ancestor of the Gileadites, who had received Gilead and Bashan because the Makirites were great soldiers.

Then allotment was made to the people of Manasseh, for he was the firstborn of Joseph. To Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, were allotted Gilead and Bashan, because he was a man of war.

The next allotment of land was given to the half tribe of Manasseh, the descendants of Joseph’s older son. Makir, the firstborn son of Manasseh, was the father of Gilead. Because his descendants were experienced soldiers, the regions of Gilead and Bashan on the east side of the Jordan had already been given to them.

This was the allotment for the tribe of Manasseh as Joseph’s firstborn. Gilead and Bashan were given to Machir, the firstborn of Manasseh and the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war.

玛拿西的儿子玛吉的子孙到基列去，攻取了那地，把住在那里的亚摩利人赶走。摩西把基列给了玛拿西的儿子玛吉，玛吉就住在那里。

约瑟对他父亲说：“爸爸啊，不是这样，这个才是长子，请你把右手按在他的头上。”

基列其余的地方和巴珊全境，就是噩王的国土，我都给了玛拿西半个支派。亚珥歌全境就是巴珊全境，这叫作利乏音人的地。玛拿西的儿子睚珥，占了亚珥歌全境，直到基述人和玛迦人的边界，就按着自己的名字称巴珊全境为哈倭特．睚珥，直到今日。我又把基列给了玛吉。

玛拿西的儿子是亚斯列，是他亚兰籍的妾所生的；她又生了基列的父亲玛吉。玛吉娶了妻子，是户品和书品的妹妹，名叫玛迦。玛拿西的次子名叫西罗非哈；西罗非哈只有几个女儿。

他们出自以法莲，他们的根在亚玛力人之地；有便雅悯在你的族人中跟随你，有官长从玛吉下来；有持着数点民数（“数点民数”意思不明确，或译﹕“经学家”或“指挥官”）之权杖的，从西布伦出来。

于是摩西把亚摩利王西宏的国，和巴珊王噩的国，连那地，和境内城市，以及那地周围的城市，都给了迦得的子孙、流本的子孙和约瑟的儿子玛拿西的半个支派。

属约瑟的儿子玛拿西的各家族，有玛拿西的玄孙、玛吉的曾孙、基列的孙子、希弗的儿子西罗非哈的女儿，名叫玛拉、挪阿、曷拉、密迦、得撒；她们前来，

基述人和亚兰人却从他们那里夺取了睚珥的村镇，以及基纳和基纳的村庄，共六十座城。以上这些人都是基列的父亲玛吉的子孙。

却要承认他不喜爱的妻子的儿子为长子，把所有的产业分两份给他，因为这儿子是他强壮有力的时候所生的头生子，长子的权利本是属于他的。
