The men of Judah fought against Jerusalem, captured it, put it to the sword, and set the city on fire.

The king and his men marched to Jerusalem against the Jebusites who inhabited the land. The Jebusites had said to David,“ You will never get in here. Even the blind and lame can repel you” thinking,“ David can’t get in here.”Yet David did capture the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David.He said that day,“ Whoever attacks the Jebusites must go through the water shaft to reach the lame and the blind who are despised by David.” For this reason it is said,“ The blind and the lame will never enter the house.”David took up residence in the stronghold, which he named the city of David. He built it up all the way around from the supporting terraces inward.

David and all Israel marched to Jerusalem( that is, Jebus); the Jebusites who inhabited the land were there.The inhabitants of Jebus said to David,“ You will never get in here.” Yet David did capture the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David.David said,“ Whoever is the first to kill a Jebusite will become chief commander.” Joab son of Zeruiah went up first, so he became the chief.Then David took up residence in the stronghold; therefore, it was called the city of David.He built up the city all the way around, from the supporting terraces to the surrounding parts, and Joab restored the rest of the city.

For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold as a slave under sin.For I do not understand what I am doing, because I do not practice what I want to do, but I do what I hate.Now if I do what I do not want to do, I agree with the law that it is good.So now I am no longer the one doing it, but it is sin living in me.For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For the desire to do what is good is with me, but there is no ability to do it.For I do not do the good that I want to do, but I practice the evil that I do not want to do.Now if I do what I do not want, I am no longer the one that does it, but it is the sin that lives in me.So I discover this law: When I want to do what is good, evil is present with me.
