便雅悯人没有赶走住在耶路撒冷的耶布斯人，所以耶布斯人与便雅悯人一同住在耶路撒冷，直到今日。

犹大人攻打耶路撒冷，把城占领，用刀击杀了城中的居民，又放火烧城。

王和随从他的人到了耶路撒冷，要攻打住在那地的耶布斯人。耶布斯人对大卫说：“你不能进这里来，这些瞎眼的、跛脚的就能把你抵挡住。”他们心里想：“大卫决不能进那里去。”大卫却攻取了锡安的保障，就是大卫的城。那一天大卫说：“攻打耶布斯人的，要把大卫心中恨恶的‘瞎子’和‘瘸子’丢进水沟里。”因此有句俗语说：“瞎眼的或瘸腿的，都不能进殿里。”后来大卫住在保障里，称保障为“大卫的城”。大卫又从米罗向里面周围筑墙。

大卫和以色列众人来到耶路撒冷，耶路撒冷就是耶布斯。那时，当地的居民耶布斯人住在那里。耶布斯的居民对大卫说：“你不能进这里来。”可是大卫占领了锡安的堡垒，锡安就是大卫城。大卫说：“谁首先攻打耶布斯人，谁就必作首领和元帅。”洗鲁雅的儿子约押首先上去，就作了首领。大卫住在堡垒中，因此人把那堡垒称为大卫城。大卫又重建四周的城墙，从米罗起，以至城的周围；那城其余的部分由约押修建。

我们知道律法是属灵的，我却是属肉体的，已经卖给罪了。因为我所作的，我不明白；我所愿意的，我没有去作，我所恨恶的，我倒去作。如果我所不愿意的，我倒去作，我就不得不承认律法是好的。既是这样，那就不是我作的，而是住在我里面的罪作的。我知道在我里面，就是在我肉体之中，没有良善，因为立志行善由得我，行出来却由不得我。所以我愿意行的善，我没有去行；我不愿意作的恶，我倒去作了。我若作自己不愿意作的事，那就不是我作的，而是住在我里面的罪作的。因此，我发现了一个律，就是我想向善的时候，恶就在我里面出现。
