便雅憫人沒有趕走居住在耶路撒冷的耶布斯人，耶布斯人至今仍和他們住在一起。

猶大人攻陷耶路撒冷，殺了城內的所有居民，並放火焚城。

大衛率領軍隊來到耶路撒冷，要攻打那裡的耶布斯人。耶布斯人對大衛說：「你攻不進來，就連我們這裡的瞎子、瘸子都可以把你趕走。」他們以為大衛攻不進去。結果大衛的軍隊攻取了錫安的堡壘，即後來的大衛城。那天，大衛下令軍隊從地下水道爬進城去，攻打那些「瞎子、瘸子」，他憎惡這些耶布斯人。後來便有一句俗語：「瞎子、瘸子不得進殿！」大衛住在錫安的堡壘裡，並稱之為大衛城，他又從米羅興建環城圍牆。

大衛和以色列眾人來到耶路撒冷，即耶布斯。那時耶布斯人住在那裡。耶布斯人對大衛說：「你攻不進來。」可是，大衛攻取了錫安的堡壘，即後來的大衛城。大衛說：「誰先攻打耶布斯人，誰就做元帥。」洗魯雅的兒子約押首先進攻，於是就做了元帥。大衛佔據了堡壘，因此那堡壘就叫大衛城。大衛又從米羅開始，在四圍修建城牆，其餘的部分由約押修建。

我們知道律法是屬靈的，我卻屬乎肉體，已經賣給罪做奴隸了。我不明白自己的所作所為，因為我想做的，我做不到；而我憎恨的惡事，我偏偏去做！既然我不想做的，我反倒去做，我就得承認律法是好的。其實那並不是我做的，而是住在我裡面的罪做的。我也知道，在我的罪惡本性裡面毫無良善，我有行善的心願，卻沒有行善的力量。我想行善，卻不能行；我不想作惡，反倒去作。如果我不想做的，我反倒去做，這就不是我自己做的，而是住在我裡面的罪做的。因此，我發現一個律：我想行善的時候，惡就不放過我。
