便雅悯人没有赶走居住在耶路撒冷的耶布斯人，耶布斯人至今仍和他们住在一起。

犹大人攻陷耶路撒冷，杀了城内的所有居民，并放火焚城。

大卫率领军队来到耶路撒冷，要攻打那里的耶布斯人。耶布斯人对大卫说：“你攻不进来，就连我们这里的瞎子、瘸子都可以把你赶走。”他们以为大卫攻不进去。结果大卫的军队攻取了锡安的堡垒，即后来的大卫城。那天，大卫下令军队从地下水道爬进城去，攻打那些“瞎子、瘸子”，他憎恶这些耶布斯人。后来便有一句俗语：“瞎子、瘸子不得进殿！”大卫住在锡安的堡垒里，并称之为大卫城，他又从米罗兴建环城围墙。

大卫和以色列众人来到耶路撒冷，即耶布斯。那时耶布斯人住在那里。耶布斯人对大卫说：“你攻不进来。”可是，大卫攻取了锡安的堡垒，即后来的大卫城。大卫说：“谁先攻打耶布斯人，谁就做元帅。”洗鲁雅的儿子约押首先进攻，于是就做了元帅。大卫占据了堡垒，因此那堡垒就叫大卫城。大卫又从米罗开始，在四围修建城墙，其余的部分由约押修建。

我们知道律法是属灵的，我却属乎肉体，已经卖给罪做奴隶了。我不明白自己的所作所为，因为我想做的，我做不到；而我憎恨的恶事，我偏偏去做！既然我不想做的，我反倒去做，我就得承认律法是好的。其实那并不是我做的，而是住在我里面的罪做的。我也知道，在我的罪恶本性里面毫无良善，我有行善的心愿，却没有行善的力量。我想行善，却不能行；我不想作恶，反倒去作。如果我不想做的，我反倒去做，这就不是我自己做的，而是住在我里面的罪做的。因此，我发现一个律：我想行善的时候，恶就不放过我。
