I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to explore the land. And I brought him back a report according to my convictions,

屬猶大支派、耶孚尼子迦勒、

窺察者二人、嫩之子約書亞、耶孚尼子迦勒、自裂其衣、告以色列會眾曰、我過其地而窺察之、其土甚美、產乳與蜜、如耶和華悅我、必導我至彼、以地賜我。莫叛耶和華、莫畏斯土之民、我得耶和華庇佑、彼無所扞衛、必為我並吞、故勿危懼、會眾欲擊以石、耶和華之榮光、顯於會幕、以色列族無不目擊。○

至巴蘭野、鄰於迦鐵、見摩西亞倫、及以色列會眾、告以諸事、以土產示眾、曰爾遣我所往之地、我已至焉、果產乳蜜、此其果也。雖然、居民強悍、城垣廣大、我見亞納子於彼。亞馬力族居南方、赫人、耶布士人、亞摩哩人居山、迦南人瀕海與約但河居焉。民怨於摩西前、迦勒止之曰、我儕能克其地、當往取之。偕行者曰、彼強於我、我不可往、遂讒言於以色列族中曰、我所窺察之地、居民受其害、我所見之人、軀幹雄偉、在彼見偉丈夫、亞納子、我自較之、形猶蟿蟲、彼之視我亦若是。

此數人乃摩西遣之、以窺迦南者、嫩之子阿書亞、摩西易其名、為約書亞、摩西遣十二人、窺察迦南曰、自此而往、涉其南境、登彼山巖、度其土地、觀其居民、強弱眾寡、其處之所、或美或惡、其邑或類營幕、或類城垣、其土壤或瘠薄、或膏腴、其林木叢茂否、強固爾志、彼地之果、可攜而至。夫摩西遣彼時、乃葡萄初稔之際。
