Those areas begin at the Shihor River in the eastern part of Egypt. They go to the territory of Ekron in the north. All that land is considered Canaanite even though it is controlled by five Philistine rulers. They rule over Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath and Ekron. The Avvites

( from the Shihor, which is east of Egypt, northward to the boundary of Ekron, it is counted as Canaanite; there are five rulers of the Philistines, those of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron), and those of the Avvim,

and the larger territory of the Canaanites, extending from the stream of Shihor on the border of Egypt, northward to the boundary of Ekron. It includes the territory of the five Philistine rulers of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron. The land of the Avvites

And the Avim, who dwelt in villages as far as Gaza— the Caphtorim, who came from Caphtor, destroyed them and dwelt in their place.)

And now why take the road to Egypt, To drink the waters of Sihor? Or why take the road to Assyria, To drink the waters of the River?

Then they said,“ What is the trespass offering which we shall return to Him?” They answered,“ Five golden tumors and five golden rats, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines. For the same plague was on all of you and on your lords.

The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.

Nevertheless the children of Israel did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maachathites, but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.

“ Command the children of Israel, and say to them:‘ When you come into the land of Canaan, this is the land that shall fall to you as an inheritance— the land of Canaan to its boundaries.Your southern border shall be from the Wilderness of Zin along the border of Edom; then your southern border shall extend eastward to the end of the Salt Sea;your border shall turn from the southern side of the Ascent of Akrabbim, continue to Zin, and be on the south of Kadesh Barnea; then it shall go on to Hazar Addar, and continue to Azmon;the border shall turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and it shall end at the Sea.‘ As for the western border, you shall have the Great Sea for a border; this shall be your western border.‘ And this shall be your northern border: From the Great Sea you shall mark out your border line to Mount Hor;from Mount Hor you shall mark out your border to the entrance of Hamath; then the direction of the border shall be toward Zedad;the border shall proceed to Ziphron, and it shall end at Hazar Enan. This shall be your northern border.‘ You shall mark out your eastern border from Hazar Enan to Shepham;the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain; the border shall go down and reach to the eastern side of the Sea of Chinnereth;the border shall go down along the Jordan, and it shall end at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land with its surrounding boundaries.’”Then Moses commanded the children of Israel, saying:“ This is the land which you shall inherit by lot, which the Lord has commanded to give to the nine tribes and to the half-tribe.For the tribe of the children of Reuben according to the house of their fathers, and the tribe of the children of Gad according to the house of their fathers, have received their inheritance; and the half-tribe of Manasseh has received its inheritance.

So when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.These are the golden tumors which the Philistines returned as a trespass offering to the Lord: one for Ashdod, one for Gaza, one for Ashkelon, one for Gath, one for Ekron;

For Gaza shall be forsaken, And Ashkelon desolate; They shall drive out Ashdod at noonday, And Ekron shall be uprooted.Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast, The nation of the Cherethites! The word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines:“ I will destroy you; So there shall be no inhabitant.”

Canaan begot Sidon his firstborn, and Heth;the Jebusite, the Amorite, and the Girgashite;the Hivite, the Arkite, and the Sinite;the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were dispersed.And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; then as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.
