And as for the Avvites who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorites coming out from Caphtor destroyed them and settled in their place.)

Now why go to Egypt to drink water from the Nile? And why go to Assyria to drink water from the Euphrates?

The Philistines asked,“ What guilt offering should we send to him?” They replied,“ Five gold tumors and five gold rats, according to the number of the Philistine rulers, because the same plague has struck both you and your rulers.

“ Command the Israelites and say to them:‘ When you enter Canaan, the land that will be allotted to you as an inheritance is to have these boundaries:“‘ Your southern side will include some of the Desert of Zin along the border of Edom. Your southern boundary will start in the east from the southern end of the Dead Sea,cross south of Scorpion Pass, continue on to Zin and go south of Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go to Hazar Addar and over to Azmon,where it will turn, join the Wadi of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea.“‘ Your western boundary will be the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. This will be your boundary on the west.“‘ For your northern boundary, run a line from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Horand from Mount Hor to Lebo Hamath. Then the boundary will go to Zedad,continue to Ziphron and end at Hazar Enan. This will be your boundary on the north.“‘ For your eastern boundary, run a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham.The boundary will go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain and continue along the slopes east of the Sea of Galilee.Then the boundary will go down along the Jordan and end at the Dead Sea.“‘ This will be your land, with its boundaries on every side.’”Moses commanded the Israelites:“ Assign this land by lot as an inheritance. The Lord has ordered that it be given to the nine- and- a- half tribes,because the families of the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance.

The five rulers of the Philistines saw all this and then returned that same day to Ekron.These are the gold tumors the Philistines sent as a guilt offering to the Lord— one each for Ashdod, Gaza, Ashkelon, Gath and Ekron.

Gaza will be abandoned and Ashkelon left in ruins. At midday Ashdod will be emptied and Ekron uprooted.Woe to you who live by the sea, you Kerethite people; the word of the Lord is against you, Canaan, land of the Philistines. He says,“ I will destroy you, and none will be left.”

Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites,Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. Later the Canaanite clans scatteredand the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, as far as Lasha.
