Moses the LORD’s servant passed on the LORD’s commands to Joshua, and Joshua did as he was told. He did not ignore any of the commands the LORD had given Moses.

As the Lord commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua did it; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.

The Lord had commanded his servant Moses to do all these things. Moses had passed that command on to Joshua. And Joshua carried it out. He did everything the Lord had commanded Moses.

Just as the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses.

“ Obey what I am commanding you this day. I am going to drive out before you the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.Be careful not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it become a snare among you.Rather you must destroy their altars, smash their images, and cut down their Asherah poles.

and he delivers them over to you and you attack them, you must utterly annihilate them. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy!

You know that I did not hold back from proclaiming to you anything that would be helpful, and from teaching you publicly and from house to house,

Then Moses called out to Joshua in the presence of all Israel,“ Be strong and courageous, for you will accompany these people to the land that the LORD promised to give their ancestors, and you will enable them to inherit it.

For I did not hold back from announcing to you the whole purpose of God.

In Judah God moved the people to unite and carry out the edict the king and the officers had issued at the LORD’s command.

( 13: 1) You must be careful to do everything I am commanding you. Do not add to it or subtract from it!

Look! I have taught you statutes and ordinances just as the LORD my God told me to do, so that you might carry them out in the land you are about to enter and possess.

Do not add a thing to what I command you nor subtract from it, so that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God that I am delivering to you.

Why haven’t you obeyed the LORD? Instead you have greedily rushed upon the plunder! You have done what is wrong in the LORD’s estimation.”Then Saul said to Samuel,“ But I have obeyed the LORD! I went on the campaign the LORD sent me on. I brought back King Agag of the Amalekites after exterminating the Amalekites.But the army took from the plunder some of the sheep and cattle– the best of what was to be slaughtered– to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal.”Then Samuel said,“ Does the LORD take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as he does in obedience? Certainly, obedience is better than sacrifice; paying attention is better than the fat of rams.

“ I regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned away from me and has not done what I told him to do.” Samuel became angry and he cried out to the LORD all that night.

The Israelites did all the work according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses.Moses inspected all the work– and they had done it just as the LORD had commanded– they had done it exactly– and Moses blessed them.

Joshua captured all these royal cities and all their kings and annihilated them with the sword, as Moses the LORD’s servant had commanded.

He captured King Agag of the Amalekites alive, but he executed all Agag’s people with the sword.However, Saul and the army spared Agag, along with the best of the flock, the cattle, the fatlings, and the lambs, as well as everything else that was of value. They were not willing to slaughter them. But they did slaughter everything that was despised and worthless.

Then Samuel said to Saul,“ I was the one the LORD sent to anoint you as king over his people Israel. Now listen to what the LORD says.Here is what the LORD of hosts says:‘ I carefully observed how the Amalekites opposed Israel along the way when Israel came up from Egypt.So go now and strike down the Amalekites. Destroy everything that they have. Don’t spare them. Put them to death– man, woman, child, infant, ox, sheep, camel, and donkey alike.’”

“ But woe to you Pharisees! You give a tenth of your mint, rue, and every herb, yet you neglect justice and love for God! But you should have done these things without neglecting the others.

“ Woe to you, experts in the law and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You give a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, yet you neglect what is more important in the law– justice, mercy, and faithfulness! You should have done these things without neglecting the others.
