永恆主在摩押原野、約但河邊、耶利哥對面告訴摩西說：『你要告訴以色列人說：你們過約但河到迦南地的時候，就要把那地所有的居民從你們面前趕出去，毁壞他們一切的石頭鏨像，毁壞他們一切鑄成的像，又拆毁他們一切的邱壇；你們就要取得那地以為業，住在那裏，因為我把那地給了你們去擁為己業。

你們奪取了城以後，要放火燒城，照永恆主的話行；注意吧，這是我吩咐你們的。』

他們回答約書亞說：『因為有人確實告訴你僕人說永恆主你的上帝曾經吩咐他僕人摩西、把這遍地賜給你們，並把這地所有的居民都從你們面前消滅掉，故此我們為了你們的緣故、很怕喪命，就行了這事了。

永恆主將拉吉交在以色列人手裏；第二天約書亞就攻取了拉吉，用刀擊打了這城，殺了其中一切人口，全照他處置立拿的樣子。
