萬民聽見，就必戰抖；疼痛恐懼抓住了非利士的居民。那時，以東的族長驚惶，摩押的英雄被戰兢抓住，所有迦南的居民都膽戰心寒。恐懼戰兢臨到他們身上；因著你大能的手臂，他們像石頭一樣寂然不動；直到你的人民過去，耶和華啊，直到你買贖的人民過去。

他們又對約書亞說：“耶和華真的把那地全交在我們手裡了；那地所有的居民都在我們面前膽戰心驚。”

地上的君王、大臣、軍長、財主、勇士和所有作奴隸的、自由的，都藏在山洞和巖穴裡。他們向山嶺和巖石說：“倒在我們身上吧！把我們藏起來，躲避坐在寶座上那位的面，和羊羔的震怒！因為他們震怒的大日子來到了，誰能站立得住呢？”

對他們二人說：“我知道耶和華已經把這地賜給你們了，你們使我們十分害怕，這地所有的居民都在你們面前膽戰心驚。因為我們聽見你們從埃及出來的時候，耶和華怎樣使紅海的水在你們面前乾了，以及你們怎樣對待約旦河東亞摩利人的兩個王西宏和噩，把他們完全消滅。我們聽見了，就都心裡驚怕；沒有一人再有勇氣在你們面前站立；因為耶和華你們的神是天上、也是地上的神。現在求你們指著耶和華向我起誓：我既然恩待了你們，你們也要恩待我的父家，並且給我一個確實的憑據，放過我的父母、兄弟姊妹和他們所有的一切，救我們的命不致死亡。”

惡人所怕的，必臨到他身上；義人所願的，必蒙應允。

地上萬民見你被稱為耶和華名下的人，就必懼怕你。

大衛對亞吉說：“我若是在你眼前蒙恩，求你在這地的城市中，給我一個地方，讓我住在那裡。為甚麼要你的僕人與你一同住在王城呢？”

那時，約押正在攻打亞捫人的拉巴，攻取了王城。

只好恐懼地等待著審判，和那快要吞滅眾仇敵的烈火。

看哪！列王會合，一同前進。他們一見這城，就驚惶，慌忙逃跑。他們在那裡戰慄恐懼；他們痛苦好像婦人分娩時一樣。

所以你們遭難的時候，我就發笑；驚恐臨到你們的日子，我就嗤笑。驚恐臨到你們好像風暴，災難如同颶風來臨，患難困苦臨到你們身上。

落在永活的神手裡，真是可怕的。
