爾眾勿緩、追襲爾敵、擊其後軍、勿容入邑、爾上帝耶和華付之於爾手矣、

眾當追敵勿遲、擊其後軍、勿使入邑、蓋爾上帝耶和華付之於爾手。

爾勿遲延、當追爾敵、擊其後軍、不容其入己之城、蓋主爾之天主必付之於爾手、

But don’t stop; pursue your enemies! Attack them from the rear and don’t let them reach their cities, for the Lord your God has given them into your hand.”

我要追趕我的仇敵，且要追上他們；若不將他們滅絕，我總不歸回。我要打傷他們，使他們站不起來；他們必倒在我的腳下。你曾以力量束我的腰，使我能爭戰；也曾使那起來攻擊我的，都服在我以下。你又使我的仇敵在我面前轉身逃跑，使我剪除那恨我的人。他們呼求，卻無人拯救；就是呼求耶和華，他也不應允。

耶和華在一日之間從以色列中剪除了頭與尾－棕樹枝與蘆葦－長老和顯要就是頭，以謊言教人的先知就是尾。

懶惰不肯為耶和華做事的，必受詛咒；禁止刀劍不見血的，必受詛咒。

他若撤退到一座城，以色列眾人必帶繩子去那城，把城拉到河裏，甚至連一塊小石子也找不到。」

約書亞和以色列人徹底擊敗他們，直到把他們滅盡，只剩下少許的人逃進堅固的城。

我們為何靜坐不動呢？我們當聚集，進入堅固城，在那裏靜默不言；因為耶和華－我們的上帝使我們靜默不言，又將苦水給我們喝，都因我們得罪了耶和華。

大衛對亞比篩說：「現在比基利的兒子示巴對我們的危害恐怕比押沙龍更大。你要帶領你主的一些僕人追趕他，免得他得了堅固的城鎮，在我們眼前逃脫。」
