我要追趕我的仇敵，並要追上他們；不將他們滅絕，我總不歸回。我要打傷他們，使他們不能起來；他們必倒在我的腳下。因為你曾以力量束我的腰，使我能爭戰；你也使那起來攻擊我的都服在我以下。你又使我的仇敵在我面前轉背逃跑，叫我能以剪除那恨我的人。他們呼求，卻無人拯救；就是呼求耶和華，他也不應允。

因此，耶和華一日之間必從以色列中剪除頭與尾，棕枝與蘆葦－長老和尊貴人就是頭，以謊言教人的先知就是尾。

懶惰為耶和華行事的，必受咒詛；禁止刀劍不經血的，必受咒詛。）

他若進了哪一座城，以色列眾人必帶繩子去，將那城拉到河裏，甚至連一塊小石頭都不剩下。」

約書亞和以色列人大大殺敗他們，直到將他們滅盡；其中剩下的人都進了堅固的城。

我們為何靜坐不動呢？我們當聚集，進入堅固城，在那裏靜默不言；因為耶和華－我們的神使我們靜默不言，又將苦膽水給我們喝，都因我們得罪了耶和華。

大衛對亞比篩說：「現在恐怕比基利的兒子示巴加害於我們比押沙龍更甚。你要帶領你主的僕人追趕他，免得他得了堅固城，躲避我們。」
