因他贪婪的罪孽，我就发怒击打他；我向他掩面发怒，他却仍然随心背道。

他们对我说：“耶和华的话在哪里呢？叫这话应验吧！”至于我，那跟从你作牧人的职分，我并没有急忙离弃，也没有想那灾殃的日子；这是你知道的。我口中所出的言语都在你面前。

我若说：我不再提耶和华，也不再奉他的名讲论，我便心里觉得似乎有烧着的火闭塞在我骨中，我就含忍不住，不能自禁。

水手便惧怕，各人哀求自己的神。他们将船上的货物抛在海中，为要使船轻些。约拿已下到底舱，躺卧沉睡。
