亞伯拉罕清早起來，到他從前站在耶和華面前的地方，向所多瑪和蛾摩拉，以及平原全地觀望。不料，看見那地有煙上升，好像燒窯的煙一樣。

因他貪婪的罪孽，我發怒了；我擊打他，向他掩面，並且發怒，他仍然隨著自己的心意背道。

看哪！他們常常對我說：“耶和華的話在哪裡？使它應驗（“應驗”原文作“來”）吧！”至於我，我沒有急忙離棄那跟從你作牧人的職分（“我沒有急忙離棄那跟從你作牧人的職分”有古譯本作“我沒有催逼你降災禍”），也沒有想望災難的日子，這是你知道的；我嘴裡所出的話都在你面前。

如果我說：“我不再提起他，也不再奉他的名說話”，他的話就像火在我心中焚燒，被困在我的骨裡；我不能再抑制，實在不能了。

水手都很懼怕，各人向自己的神大聲呼求；他們為了減輕船的重量，就把船上的東西拋在海裡，可是約拿卻下了船艙，躺著熟睡了。
