But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness, not to mention all the animals. Shouldn’t I feel sorry for such a great city?”

So may I not care about the great city of Nineveh, which has more than a hundred twenty thousand people who cannot distinguish between their right and their left, as well as many animals?”

Should I not also have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 people, who do not know the difference between their right hand and their left, as well as many animals?”

And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left— and much livestock?”

and should not I have regard for Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

Should I not care about the great city of Nineveh, which has more than 120,000 people who cannot distinguish between their right and their left, as well as many animals?”

“ Go to the great city of Nineveh. Preach against it. The sins of its people have come to my attention.”

Shouldn’t you have had mercy on the other servant just as I had mercy on you?’

You said your little ones would be taken prisoner. But they will enter the land. They do not yet know right from wrong. But I will give them the land. They will take it as their own.

Your holiness is as great as the height of the highest mountains. You are as honest as the oceans are deep. Lord, you keep people and animals safe.

“ The older brother became angry. He refused to go in. So his father went out and begged him.But he answered his father,‘ Look! All these years I’ve worked like a slave for you. I have always obeyed your orders. You never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.But this son of yours wasted your money with some prostitutes. Now he comes home. And for him you kill the fattest calf!’“‘ My son,’ the father said,‘ you are always with me. Everything I have is yours.But we had to celebrate and be glad. This brother of yours was dead. And now he is alive again. He was lost. And now he is found.’ ”

God saw what they did. He saw that they stopped doing what was evil. So he took pity on them. He didn’t destroy them as he had said he would.But to Jonah this seemed very wrong. He became angry.

“ Go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce to its people the message I give you.”Jonah obeyed the Lord. He went to Nineveh. It was a very large city. In fact, it took about three days to go through it.

All creatures depend on you to give them their food when they need it.When you give it to them, they eat it. When you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.

He makes grass grow for the cattle and plants for people to take care of. That’s how they get food from the earth.

Every living thing looks to you for food. You give it to them exactly when they need it.You open your hand and satisfy the needs of every living creature.

The Lord is gracious, kind and tender. He is slow to get angry and full of love.The Lord is good to all. He shows deep concern for everything he has made.

“ Come. Let us settle this matter,” says the Lord.“ Even though your sins are bright red, they will be as white as snow. Even though they are deep red, they will be white like wool.
