But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence.

Let people and animals alike be covered with the clothing of sadness. All of you must call out to God with all your hearts. Stop doing what is evil. Don’t harm others.

Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil,learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.“ Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;

So the captain came and said to him,“ What do you mean, you sleeper? Arise, call out to your god! Perhaps the god will give a thought to us, that we may not perish.”

Now, therefore, say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem:‘ Thus says the Lord, Behold, I am shaping disaster against you and devising a plan against you. Return, every one from his evil way, and amend your ways and your deeds.’

Bear fruit in keeping with repentance.

Again, when a wicked person turns away from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he shall save his life.Because he considered and turned away from all the transgressions that he had committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out,

but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance.

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord!O Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

“ But if a wicked person turns away from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die.None of the transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness that he has done he shall live.Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?But when a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and does injustice and does the same abominations that the wicked person does, shall he live? None of the righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered; for the treachery of which he is guilty and the sin he has committed, for them he shall die.

Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?

“ Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?

Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you: break off your sins by practicing righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed, that there may perhaps be a lengthening of your prosperity.”

“ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, declares the Lord God. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin.Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why will you die, O house of Israel?For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.”
