又一些人乘船航行在海上，在大水上往來經商；他們看見了耶和華所做的，以及他在深海中的奇妙作為。他一吩咐，暴風就興起，揚起海洋的波濤。他們上到天空，又下到深淵，在危急中魂飛魄散。他們搖搖晃晃，東倒西歪，好像醉酒的人，他們一切的智慧都毫無用處。於是他們在危難中向耶和華呼求，他就把他們從困境中領出來。他使狂風止息，歸於靜寂，海洋的波濤也平靜了。他們因為波濤平靜下來就歡喜，他就引導他們到想要去的安全港。願他們因耶和華的慈愛，以及他向世人顯明的奇妙作為稱謝他！

這時候，忽然湖上起了大風暴，以致波浪蓋過了船，耶穌卻睡著了。門徒們上前來叫醒他，說：「主啊，救救我們，我們沒命了！」耶穌對他們說：「為什麼膽怯呢？你們這些小信的人哪！」耶穌就起來，斥責風和浪，湖面就變得一片平靜。他們都感到驚奇，說：「這個人究竟是什麼人？連風和浪也聽從他！」

他使雲霧從地極上騰，使閃電隨雨水而發，又使風從他的庫房而出。

這時，南風微微吹起，他們以為正合所願，就起了錨，沿著克里特島航行。但是過了不久，一股叫做「東北風」的颶風，從島上襲來。船被困住，頂不住風，我們只好任憑船被颳走。我們沿著一個叫做克勞達小島的背風岸行駛的時候，好不容易才控制住救生艇。水手們把救生艇拖上來以後，就用纜繩繞過大船底綁好；又怕在敘爾提斯淺灘上會擱淺，就把錨放低，任船漂流。我們被暴風猛烈地襲擊。第二天，他們開始把貨物拋在海裡。第三天，他們又親手把船上的用具拋出去。一連好幾天見不到太陽和星星，又有暴風雨催逼著，最後我們連獲救的希望都斷絕了。
