The LORD will attack the north and destroy Assyria. He will make Nineveh a heap of ruins; it will be as barren as the desert.Flocks and herds will lie down in the middle of it, as well as every kind of wild animal. Owls will sleep in the tops of its support pillars; they will hoot through the windows. So King Sennacherib of Assyria broke camp and went on his way. He went home and stayed in Nineveh.

So the LORD said,“ The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so blatantthat I must go down and see if they are as wicked as the outcry suggests. If not, I want to know.”

Should I not be even more concerned about Nineveh, this enormous city? There are more than one hundred twenty thousand people in it who do not know right from wrong, as well as many animals!”

But I am full of the courage that the LORD’s Spirit gives, and have a strong commitment to justice. This enables me to confront Jacob with its rebellion, and Israel with its sin.

You must speak my words to them whether they listen or not, for they are rebellious.

I prayed,“ O my God, I am ashamed and embarrassed to lift my face to you, my God! For our iniquities have climbed higher than our heads, and our guilt extends to the heavens.

Look, the pay you have held back from the workers who mowed your fields cries out against you, and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts.

And you will be brought before governors and kings because of me, as a witness to them and the Gentiles.
