他们又对他说：“我们该对你怎么做，才能使海为我们平静下来呢？”因为海浪越来越汹涌了。

他們問他說：「我們當向你怎樣行，使海浪平靜呢？」這話是因海浪越發翻騰。

海浪越來越洶湧，他們就問他說：「我們當向你做甚麼，才能使海浪平靜呢？」

他們又問他：「我們該對你怎麼做，才能使海為我們平靜下來呢？」因為海浪越來越洶湧了。

又謂之曰、我當何以待爾、使海為我而恬靜乎、因海久而愈盪、

又曰、今海震盪愈甚、當若何待爾、則風浪可息。

又曰、今海之波濤洶湧已甚、當若何待爾、使海恬靜乎、

The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him,“ What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?”

Then they said to him,“ What shall we do to you, that the sea may quiet down for us?” For the sea grew more and more tempestuous.

And since the storm was getting worse all the time, they asked him,“ What should we do to you to stop this storm?”

So they said to him,“ What should we do to you so that the sea will calm down for us?” For the sea was getting worse and worse.

So they said to him,“ What should we do to you so that the sea will become calm for us?”— for the sea was becoming increasingly stormy.

Then they said to him,“ What shall we do to you that the sea may be calm for us?”— for the sea was growing more tempestuous.

Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea grew more and more tempestuous.

So they said to him,“ What should we do to you to calm this sea that’s against us?” For the sea was getting worse and worse.

Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.

Because the storm was growing worse and worse, they said to him,“ What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?”

Then they said to him,“ What shall we do to you, that the sea may be calm to us?” For the sea grew more and more stormy.

在大衛執政期間，連續有三年饑荒，大衛就求問耶和華。耶和華說：「發生這饑荒是因為掃羅一家人的血債，他們殺害了基遍人。」原來基遍人不是以色列人，他們是亞摩利人的遺民。以色列人曾起誓不傷害他們，但掃羅為以色列人和猶大人發熱心，試圖剷除基遍人。大衛就召來基遍人，問他們：「我可以為你們做些什麼來贖罪，使你們願意祝福耶和華的子民呢？」基遍人答道：「金銀不能解決我們和掃羅一家人的問題，我們也不想處死任何以色列人。」大衛說：「你們要我怎麼辦？」他們說：「掃羅曾試圖滅絕我們，把我們從以色列境內剷除。請你把掃羅的七個子孫交給我們。耶和華選立了掃羅，我們就在耶和華面前把他們吊死在掃羅的家鄉基比亞城。」王說：「我必把他們交給你們。」

第二天早上，耶和華對大衛的先見——迦得先知說：「你去告訴大衛，耶和華說，『我有三樣災禍，你可以選擇讓我降哪一樣給你。』」迦得就來見大衛，對他說：「你願意國內有七年饑荒呢？還是被敵人追殺三個月呢？還是國內發生三天瘟疫呢？請你考慮好後告訴我，我好回覆那差我來的。」

我要拿什麼朝見耶和華，在天上的上帝面前叩拜呢？要獻上一歲的牛犢作燔祭嗎？耶和華會喜愛成千的公羊和萬條油河嗎？我要因過犯而獻上自己的長子，因心中的罪惡而獻上親生的骨肉嗎？

非利士人叫來他們的祭司和占卜者，問道：「我們該怎樣處理耶和華的約櫃呢？請告訴我們怎樣把它送回原處？」他們答道：「你們若把以色列上帝的約櫃送回去，不可空手送去，一定要向他獻上賠罪的禮物，這樣你們就可以得到醫治，也可以知道他為什麼懲罰你們。」
