永恆主上帝在東方栽種了一個園子在伊甸，將所塑造的人放在那裏。

『我用旋風吹散他們到他們所不認識的列國去。這樣、國土在他們去後也就變為荒涼，甚至無人來回經過；因為他們使可喜愛之地荒涼了。』

永恆主啊，我是向你呼求的；因為有火燒滅了野地的草場，有火燄燒盡了田野的樹木。連田野的走獸也向你發喘；因為有水的溪河都乾涸了，有火燒滅了野地的草場。

蝗蟲遮滿了地面，弄得那地都暗黑了。牠們又喫了地上各樣的菜蔬，和樹上一切的果子、就是冰雹所留下來的：以致埃及遍地、無論是樹木、是田間的菜蔬、連一點青的也沒有留下。

遮滿了地面，以致人都看不到地。蝗蟲必喫那逃脫了難的餘剩物，那沒受冰雹打壞所剩下來的；牠們必喫田野間所生長的一切樹木。

我們的上帝來臨，決不緘默；有火在他面前焚燒着，有暴風在他四圍大颳着。

上帝園中的香柏樹遮它不着，松樹也比不着它的枝子；楓樹不如它的枝條；上帝園中的眾樹都比不着它的美麗。我以其枝條之茂盛而使它美麗，以致上帝園中伊甸的眾樹都羨慕它。

羅得舉目，看見約但河那一片平原，沿到瑣珥的路向，各處水源充足，在永恆主還沒有毁滅所多瑪、蛾摩拉以前，就像永恆主的園子，就像埃及地一樣。

他說一聲，蝗蟲就來，蝻子也來，不計其數；喫盡了他們地上的各樣菜蔬，吞喫了他們田間的果實。

他們必喫盡你的莊稼和糧食，喫盡你的兒子和女兒，喫盡你的羊羣和牛羣，喫盡你的葡萄和無花果；你所倚靠的堡壘城、他們必用刀劍來毁壞。』

剪蟲剩下的、蝗蟲喫了；蝗蟲剩下的、蝻子喫了；蝻子剩下的、螞蚱喫了。醉漢哪，醒過來，哭吧！一切好喝醉的人哪，哀號哦！為甜酒而哀號！因為酒從你們口中斷絕了。因為有蝗蟲像整國之民上來、襲擊我的地，又強盛、又無數；牠的牙齒如獅子的牙齒，牠簡直有母獅的大牙哦。牠蹧蹋了我的葡萄樹，把我的無花果樹都扯成碎片，剝盡淨光而棄置着；其枝藤都露白了。

主永恆主這樣使我看見：看哪，主永恆主正在呼喚着燄火，火就吞滅了廣大深淵，並且將要把耕種地段也燒燬掉。
