Let the priests, who minister before the Lord, weep between the portico and the altar. Let them say,“ Spare your people, Lord. Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples,‘ Where is their God?’”

Let the priests who serve the Lord weep. Let them cry between the temple porch and the altar. Let them say,“ Lord, spare your people. Don’t let others make fun of them. Don’t let the nations laugh at them. Don’t let them tease your people and say,‘ Where is their God?’ ”

Between the vestibule and the altar let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep and say,“ Spare your people, O Lord, and make not your heritage a reproach, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples,‘ Where is their God?’”

Let the priests, who minister in the Lord’s presence, stand and weep between the entry room to the Temple and the altar. Let them pray,“ Spare your people, Lord! Don’t let your special possession become an object of mockery. Don’t let them become a joke for unbelieving foreigners who say,‘ Has the God of Israel left them?’”

Let the priests, the LORD’s ministers, weep between the portico and the altar. Let them say,“ Have pity on your people, LORD, and do not make your inheritance a disgrace, an object of scorn among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples,‘ Where is their God?’”

Let the priests, who minister to the Lord, Weep between the porch and the altar; Let them say,“ Spare Your people, O Lord, And do not give Your heritage to reproach, That the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples,‘ Where is their God?’”

Let the priests, the ministers of Jehovah, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Jehovah, and give not thy heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the peoples, Where is their God?

Let the priests, the Lord’s ministers, weep between the portico and the altar. Let them say:“ Have pity on Your people, Lord, and do not make Your inheritance a disgrace, an object of scorn among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples,‘ Where is their God?’”

Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where[ is] their God?

Let the priests, those who serve the LORD, weep from the vestibule all the way back to the altar. Let them say,“ Have pity, O LORD, on your people; please do not turn over your inheritance to be mocked, to become a proverb among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples,“ Where is their God?”

Let the priests, the ministers of Yahweh, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say,“ Spare your people, Yahweh, and don’t give your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples,‘ Where is their God?’”

Then He brought me into the inner courtyard of the Lord’s house. And behold, at the entrance to the temple of the Lord, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty five men with their backs to the temple of the Lord while their faces were toward the east; and they were prostrating themselves eastward toward the sun.

Why should the nations say,“ Where is their God?” Let vengeance for the blood of Your servants which has been shed Be known among the nations in our sight.

Why should the nations say,“ Where, then, is their God?”

and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that You, Lord, are in the midst of this people, because You, Lord, are seen eye to eye, while Your cloud stands over them; and You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.Now if You put this people to death all at once, then the nations who have heard of Your fame will say,‘ Since the Lord could not bring this people into the land which He promised them by oath, He slaughtered them in the wilderness.’

As a shattering of my bones, my adversaries taunt me, While they say to me all day long,“ Where is your God?”

How long, God, will the enemy taunt You? Shall the enemy treat Your name disrespectfully forever?

But now Lord, our God, save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, Lord, are God.”

Then my enemy will see, And shame will cover her who said to me,“ Where is the Lord your God?” My eyes will look at her; At that time she will be trampled down Like mud of the streets.

Then he said,“ If in any way I have found favor in Your sight, Lord, please may the Lord go along in our midst, even though the people are so obstinate, and pardon our wrongdoing and our sin, and take us as Your own possession.”

Then I said,“ Lord God, please stop! How can Jacob stand? For he is small.”

Then Solomon offered burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar of the Lord which he had built in front of the porch;

And it came about, when it had finished eating the vegetation of the land, that I said,“ Lord God, please pardon! How can Jacob stand? For he is small.”

The porch in front of the main room of the house was twenty cubits in length, corresponding to the width of the house, and its width along the front of the house was ten cubits.

The grain offering and the drink offering have been cut off From the house of the Lord. The priests mourn, The ministers of the Lord.

so that upon you will fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

Therefore, you mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God. This is what the Lord God says to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys, to the desolate ruins and to the abandoned cities which have become plunder and an object of ridicule to the rest of the nations which are all around—therefore the Lord God says this:“ Certainly in the fire of My jealousy I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who appropriated My land for themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and with contempt of soul, in order to make its pastureland plunder.”Therefore prophesy in regard to the land of Israel and say to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys,“ This is what the Lord God says:‘ Behold, I have spoken in My jealousy and in My wrath because you have endured the insults of the nations.’Therefore the Lord God says this:‘ I have sworn that the nations that are around you will certainly endure their insults themselves.

Why, Lord, do You cause us to stray from Your ways And harden our heart from fearing You? Return for the sake of Your servants, the tribes of Your heritage.Your holy people possessed Your sanctuary for a little while, Our adversaries have trampled it down.We have become like those over whom You have never ruled, Like those who were not called by Your name.

Then Moses pleaded with the Lord his God, and said,“ Lord, why does Your anger burn against Your people whom You have brought out from the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?Why should the Egyptians talk, saying,‘ With evil motives He brought them out, to kill them on the mountains and to destroy them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your burning anger and relent of doing harm to Your people.Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants to whom You swore by Yourself, and said to them,‘ I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heavens, and all this land of which I have spoken I will give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.’ ”

With which Your enemies have taunted, Lord, With which they have taunted the footsteps of Your anointed.

then I will uproot you from My land which I have given you, and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight; and I will make it a proverb and an object of scorn among all peoples.

Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to Him,“ Take away all guilt And receive us graciously, So that we may present the fruit of our lips.

My God, incline Your ear and hear! Open Your eyes and see our desolations and the city which is called by Your name; for we are not presenting our pleas before You based on any merits of our own, but based on Your great compassion.Lord, hear! Lord, forgive! Lord, listen and take action! For Your own sake, my God, do not delay, because Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”

then I will cut Israel off from the land which I have given them, and the house which I have consecrated for My name, I will expel from My sight. So Israel will become a saying and an object of derision among all peoples.

Remember this, Lord, that the enemy has taunted You, And a foolish people has treated Your name disrespectfully.Do not give the soul of Your turtledove to the wild animal; Do not forget the life of Your afflicted forever.Consider the covenant; For the dark places of the land are full of the places of violence.May the oppressed person not return dishonored; May the afflicted and the needy praise Your name.Arise, God, and plead Your own cause; Remember how the foolish person taunts You all day long.Do not forget the voice of Your adversaries, The uproar of those who rise against You, which ascends continually.

You cause us to turn back from the enemy; And those who hate us have taken spoils for themselves.You turn us over to be eaten like sheep, And have scattered us among the nations.You sell Your people cheaply, And have not profited by their sale.You make us an object of reproach to our neighbors, Of scoffing and ridicule to those around us.You make us a proverb among the nations, A laughingstock among the peoples.

And you will become an object of horror, a song of mockery, and an object of taunting among all the peoples where the Lord drives you.

My tears have been my food day and night, While they say to me all day long,“ Where is your God?”

But I acted for the sake of My name, that it would not be defiled in the sight of the nations among whom they lived, in whose sight I made Myself known to them by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.

Do not be angry beyond measure, Lord, Nor remember wrongdoing forever. Behold, please look, all of us are Your people.Your holy cities have become a wilderness, Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.Our holy and beautiful house, Where our fathers praised You, Has been burned by fire; And all our precious things have become a ruin.Will You restrain Yourself at these things, Lord? Will You keep silent and afflict us beyond measure?

Had I not feared the provocation by the enemy, That their adversaries would misjudge, That they would say,“ Our hand is triumphant, And the Lord has not performed all this.” ’

“ But now, do indeed plead for God’s favor, so that He will be gracious to us. With such an offering on your part, will He receive any of you kindly?” says the Lord of armies.

All who pass along the way plunder him; He has become a disgrace to his neighbors.

We have become a disgrace before our neighbors, An object of derision and ridicule to those around us.

Put on sackcloth And mourn, you priests; Wail, you ministers of the altar! Come, spend the night in sackcloth, You ministers of my God, For the grain offering and the drink offering Have been withheld from the house of your God.

He has trusted in God; let God rescue Him now, if He takes pleasure in Him; for He said,‘ I am the Son of God.’ ”

And I saw that you had indeed sinned against the Lord your God. You had made for yourselves a cast metal image of a calf; you had quickly turned aside from the way that the Lord had commanded you.So I took hold of the two tablets and threw them from my two hands, and smashed them to pieces before your eyes!Then I fell down before the Lord like the first time, for forty days and nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you had committed by doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger.For I was afraid of the anger and the rage with which the Lord was angry with you so as to destroy you; but the Lord listened to me that time as well.The Lord was also angry enough with Aaron to destroy him; so I also prayed for Aaron at the same time.And I took your sinful thing which you had made, the calf, and burned it in the fire and crushed it, grinding it thoroughly until it was as fine as dust; and I threw its dust into the stream that came down from the mountain.“ Then at Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth hattaavah you kept provoking the Lord to anger.And when the Lord sent you from Kadesh barnea, saying,‘ Go up and take possession of the land which I have given you,’ you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God; you neither trusted Him nor listened to His voice.You have been rebellious toward the Lord since the day I knew you.“ So I fell down before the Lord for the forty days and nights, which I did because the Lord said He would destroy you.And I prayed to the Lord and said,‘ Lord God, do not destroy Your people, Your inheritance, whom You have redeemed through Your greatness, whom You have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand!Remember Your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; do not turn Your attention to the stubbornness of this people, or to their wickedness, or their sin.Otherwise, the people of the land from which You brought us will say,“ Since the Lord was not able to bring them into the land which He had promised them, and since He hated them, He has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness!”Yet they are Your people, and Your inheritance, whom You brought out by Your great power and Your outstretched arm.’

Behold, we are slaves today, And as for the land which You gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its bounty, Behold, we are slaves on it.
