Let the priests, who minister before the Lord, weep between the portico and the altar. Let them say,“ Spare your people, Lord. Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples,‘ Where is their God?’”

Let the priests who serve the Lord weep. Let them cry between the temple porch and the altar. Let them say,“ Lord, spare your people. Don’t let others make fun of them. Don’t let the nations laugh at them. Don’t let them tease your people and say,‘ Where is their God?’ ”

Between the vestibule and the altar let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep and say,“ Spare your people, O Lord, and make not your heritage a reproach, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples,‘ Where is their God?’”

Let the priests, who minister in the Lord’s presence, stand and weep between the entry room to the Temple and the altar. Let them pray,“ Spare your people, Lord! Don’t let your special possession become an object of mockery. Don’t let them become a joke for unbelieving foreigners who say,‘ Has the God of Israel left them?’”

Let the priests, the LORD’s ministers, weep between the portico and the altar. Let them say,“ Have pity on your people, LORD, and do not make your inheritance a disgrace, an object of scorn among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples,‘ Where is their God?’”

Let the priests, those who serve the LORD, weep from the vestibule all the way back to the altar. Let them say,“ Have pity, O LORD, on your people; please do not turn over your inheritance to be mocked, to become a proverb among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples,“ Where is their God?”

Let the priests, the ministers of Yahweh, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say,“ Spare your people, Yahweh, and don’t give your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples,‘ Where is their God?’”

And he brought me into the inner court of Jehovah’s house; and behold, at the door of the temple of Jehovah, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of Jehovah, and their faces toward the east; and they were worshipping the sun toward the east.

Wherefore should the nations say, Where is their God? Let the avenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed Be known among the nations in our sight.

Wherefore should the nations say, Where is now their God?

and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that thou Jehovah art in the midst of this people; for thou Jehovah art seen face to face, and thy cloud standeth over them, and thou goest before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.Now if thou shalt kill this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,Because Jehovah was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

As with a sword in my bones, mine adversaries reproach me, While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

How long, O God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?

Now therefore, O Jehovah our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art Jehovah, even thou only.

Then mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her who said unto me, Where is Jehovah thy God? Mine eyes shall see my desire upon her; now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.

And he said, If now I have found favor in thy sight, O Lord, let the Lord, I pray thee, go in the midst of us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.

Then said I, O Lord Jehovah, cease, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.

Then Solomon offered burnt- offerings unto Jehovah on the altar of Jehovah, which he had built before the porch,

And it came to pass that, when they made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord Jehovah, forgive, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.

And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.

The meal- offering and the drink- offering are cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah’s ministers, mourn.

that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar.

therefore, ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord Jehovah: Thus saith the Lord Jehovah to the mountains and to the hills, to the watercourses and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes and to the cities that are forsaken, which are become a prey and derision to the residue of the nations that are round about;therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed my land unto themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with despite of soul, to cast it out for a prey.Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say unto the mountains and to the hills, to the watercourses and to the valleys, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my wrath, because ye have borne the shame of the nations:therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I have sworn, saying, Surely the nations that are round about you, they shall bear their shame.

O Jehovah, why dost thou make us to err from thy ways, and hardenest our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants’ sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.Thy holy people possessed it but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down thy sanctuary.We are become as they over whom thou never barest rule, as they that were not called by thy name.

And Moses besought Jehovah his God, and said, Jehovah, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, that thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, saying, For evil did he bring them forth, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.

Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O Jehovah, Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.

then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

Take with you words, and return unto Jehovah: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and accept that which is good: so will we render as bullocks the offering of our lips.

O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies’ sake.O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God, because thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Jehovah, And that a foolish people hath blasphemed thy name.Oh deliver not the soul of thy turtle- dove unto the wild beast: Forget not the life of thy poor for ever.Have respect unto the covenant; For the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of violence.Oh let not the oppressed return ashamed: Let the poor and needy praise thy name.Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: Remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee all the day.Forget not the voice of thine adversaries: The tumult of those that rise up against thee ascendeth continually.

Thou makest us to turn back from the adversary; And they that hate us take spoil for themselves.Thou hast made us like sheep appointed for food, And hast scattered us among the nations.Thou sellest thy people for nought, And hast not increased thy wealth by their price.Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to them that are round about us.Thou makest us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples.

And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all the peoples whither Jehovah shall lead thee away.

My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among which they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.

Be not wroth very sore, O Jehovah, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, look, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned with fire; and all our pleasant places are laid waste.Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O Jehovah? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?

Were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy, Lest their adversaries should judge amiss, Lest they should say, Our hand is exalted, And Jehovah hath not done all this.

And now, I pray you, entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he accept any of your persons? saith Jehovah of hosts.

All that pass by the way rob him: He is become a reproach to his neighbors.

We are become a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and derision to them that are round about us.

Gird yourselves with sackcloth, and lament, ye priests; wail, ye ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meal- offering and the drink- offering are withholden from the house of your God.

He trusteth on God; let him deliver him now, if he desireth him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

And I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against Jehovah your God; ye had made you a molten calf: ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which Jehovah had commanded you.And I took hold of the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and brake them before your eyes.And I fell down before Jehovah, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I did neither eat bread nor drink water; because of all your sin which ye sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger.For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith Jehovah was wroth against you to destroy you. But Jehovah hearkened unto me that time also.And Jehovah was very angry with Aaron to destroy him: and I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth- hattaavah, ye provoked Jehovah to wrath.And when Jehovah sent you from Kadesh- barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of Jehovah your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.Ye have been rebellious against Jehovah from the day that I knew you.So I fell down before Jehovah the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because Jehovah had said he would destroy you.And I prayed unto Jehovah, and said, O Lord Jehovah, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, that thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, that thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin,lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because Jehovah was not able to bring them into the land which he promised unto them, and because he hated them, he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy great power and by thine outstretched arm.

Behold, we are servants this day, and as for the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we are servants in it.
