“ Go, consecrate the people. Tell them,‘ Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow; for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There are devoted things among you, Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove them. (niv)

It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. (niv)

Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly. Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord. (niv)

This is the proclamation he issued in Nineveh:“ By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink.But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. (niv)

Jesus answered,“ How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast. (niv)

who sets their heart on seeking God— the Lord, the God of their ancestors— even if they are not clean according to the rules of the sanctuary.” (niv)

The goats for the sin offering were brought before the king and the assembly, and they laid their hands on them.The priests then slaughtered the goats and presented their blood on the altar for a sin offering to atone for all Israel, because the king had ordered the burnt offering and the sin offering for all Israel. (niv)
