Mourn like a virgin in sackcloth grieving for the betrothed of her youth.

My people, mourn like a virgin who is dressed in the clothes of sadness. She is sad because she has lost the young man she was going to marry.

Lament like a virgin wearing sackcloth for the bridegroom of her youth.

Weep like a bride dressed in black, mourning the death of her husband.

Grieve like a young woman dressed in sackcloth, mourning for the husband of her youth.

Wail like a virgin clothed with sackcloth For the groom of her youth.

And in that day did the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for the skilful women, that they may come:and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we ruined! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.

The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merry- hearted do sigh.The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.The waste city is broken down; every house is shut up, that no man may come in.There is a crying in the streets because of the wine; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

Gird yourselves with sackcloth, and lament, ye priests; wail, ye ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meal- offering and the drink- offering are withholden from the house of your God.Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the old men and all the inhabitants of the land unto the house of Jehovah your God, and cry unto Jehovah.Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

That forsaketh the friend of her youth, And forgetteth the covenant of her God:

Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My Father, thou art the guide of my youth?

And did he not make one, although he had the residue of the Spirit? And wherefore one? He sought a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded.Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

Come now, ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you.

Tremble, ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones; strip you, and make you bare, and gird sackcloth upon your loins.

Yet even now, saith Jehovah, turn ye unto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:and rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto Jehovah your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and repenteth him of the evil.Who knoweth whether he will not turn and repent, and leave a blessing behind him, even a meal- offering and a drink- offering unto Jehovah your God?
