Get up and weep, you people who drink too much! Cry, all you who drink wine! Cry because the fresh wine has been taken away from you.

The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh.The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in.[ There is] a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come.Tremble, ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones: strip you, and make you bare, and gird[ sackcloth] upon[ your] loins.They shall lament for the teats, for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.

And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and[ so] that day come upon you unawares.For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Go to now,[ ye] rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon[ you].

Son of man, prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Howl ye, Woe worth the day!

Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;That chant to the sound of the viol,[ and] invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

And that, knowing the time, that now[ it is] high time to awake out of sleep: for now[ is] our salvation nearer than when we believed.The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to[ fulfil] the lusts[ thereof].

For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.

And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink.

Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
