Suppose a plague brings sudden death. Then he laughs when those who haven’t sinned lose hope.

When a scourge brings sudden death, he mocks the despair of the innocent.

When disaster brings sudden death, he mocks at the calamity of the innocent.

When a plague sweeps through, he laughs at the death of the innocent.

When catastrophe brings sudden death, he mocks the despair of the innocent.

If the whip kills suddenly, He mocks the despair of the innocent.

If the scourge slays suddenly, He laughs at the plight of the innocent.

If the scourge slay suddenly, He will mock at the trial of the innocent.

“ So now I’m saying,‘ May what you have told me prevent that man from doing what he wants. You are like an angel of God. You know what is good and what is evil. May the Lord your God be with you.’ ”

Some were made fun of and even whipped. Some were held by chains. Some were put in prison.Some were killed with stones. Some were sawed in two. Some were killed by swords. They went around wearing the skins of sheep and goats. They were poor. They were attacked. They were treated badly.

“ You can be sure that testing will come. Why does the sword look down on the scepter? Because even the scepter will not continue to rule,” announces the Lord and King.

“ Here’s something to think about. Have people who aren’t guilty ever been wiped out? Have honest people ever been completely destroyed?

“ King David, I’ve come here to say this to you now. I’ve done it because people have made me afraid. I thought,‘ I’ll go and speak to the king. Perhaps he’ll do what I’m asking.

Then Satan left the Lord and went on his way. He sent painful sores on Job. They covered him from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head.

But because of you, we face death all day long. We are considered as sheep to be killed.

The groans of those who are dying are heard from the city. Those who are wounded cry out for help. But God doesn’t charge anyone with doing what is wrong.

“ I’m sure God doesn’t turn his back on anyone who is honest. And he doesn’t help those who do what is evil.

One day Job’s sons and daughters were at their oldest brother’s house. They were enjoying good food and drinking wine.During that time a messenger came to Job. He said,“ The oxen were plowing. The donkeys were eating grass near them.Then the Sabeans attacked us and carried off the animals. They killed some of the servants with their swords. I’m the only one who has escaped to tell you!”While he was still speaking, a second messenger came. He said,“ God sent lightning from the sky. It struck the sheep and killed them. It burned up some of the servants. I’m the only one who has escaped to tell you!”While he was still speaking, a third messenger came. He said,“ The Chaldeans separated themselves into three groups. They attacked your camels and carried them off. They killed the rest of the servants with their swords. I’m the only one who has escaped to tell you!”While he was still speaking, a fourth messenger came. He said,“ Your sons and daughters were at their oldest brother’s house. They were enjoying good food and drinking wine.Suddenly a strong wind blew in from the desert. It struck the four corners of the house. The house fell down on your children. Now all of them are dead. I’m the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

“ Or suppose I send a plague into that land. And I pour out my great anger on it by spilling blood. I kill its people and their animals.And suppose Noah, Daniel and Job were in that land. Then they could not save their own sons or daughters. They could save only themselves by doing what is right. And that is just as sure as I am alive,” announces the Lord and King.The Lord and King says,“ It will get much worse. I will punish Jerusalem in four horrible ways. There will be war, hunger, wild animals and plague. They will destroy the people and their animals.
