“ You have spoken in my hearing, and I have heard your very words.You said,‘ I am pure; I am without sin; I am innocent; I have no guilt.God is picking a quarrel with me, and he considers me his enemy.He puts my feet in the stocks and watches my every move.’“ But you are wrong, and I will show you why. For God is greater than any human being.So why are you bringing a charge against him? Why say he does not respond to people’s complaints?

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you.

Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.

Then I said,“ It’s all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”

“ Yes, I know all this is true in principle. But how can a person be declared innocent in God’s sight?

And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak.The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.”

But you are talking nonsense, Job. You have spoken like a fool.”

The crooked heart will not prosper; the lying tongue tumbles into trouble.

Don’t put your servant on trial, for no one is innocent before you.

Then he said to them,“ You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your hearts. What this world honors is detestable in the sight of God.

The man wanted to justify his actions, so he asked Jesus,“ And who is my neighbor?”

These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy.

Job’s three friends refused to reply further to him because he kept insisting on his innocence.Then Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite, of the clan of Ram, became angry. He was angry because Job refused to admit that he had sinned and that God was right in punishing him.

Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.

There once was a man named Job who lived in the land of Uz. He was blameless— a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil.

Lord, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive?

‘ Can a mortal be innocent before God? Can anyone be pure before the Creator?’
