As a cloud vanishes and is gone, so one who goes down to the grave does not return.

When a cloud disappears, it’s gone forever. And anyone who goes down to the grave never returns.

Just as a cloud dissipates and vanishes, those who die will not come back.

As a cloud fades away and vanishes, so the one who goes down to Sheol will never rise again.

When a cloud vanishes, it is gone; In the same way one who goes down to Sheol does not come up.

Terrors are turned upon me; my honor is pursued as by the wind, and my prosperity has passed away like a cloud.

For when a few years have come I shall go the way from which I shall not return.

But a man dies and is laid low; man breathes his last, and where is he?As waters fail from a lake and a river wastes away and dries up,so a man lies down and rises not again; till the heavens are no more he will not awake or be roused out of his sleep.Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would conceal me until your wrath be past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me!If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my service I would wait, till my renewal should come.

before I go— and I shall not return— to the land of darkness and deep shadow,

We must all die; we are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. But God will not take away life, and he devises means so that the banished one will not remain an outcast.

He loads the thick cloud with moisture; the clouds scatter his lightning.

I said, I shall not see the Lord, the Lord in the land of the living; I shall look on man no more among the inhabitants of the world.

It is higher than heaven— what can you do? Deeper than Sheol— what can you know?

Look away from me, that I may smile again, before I depart and am no more!”
