Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die.

When they are carried to the grave, an honor guard keeps watch at their tomb.A great funeral procession goes to the cemetery. Many pay their respects as the body is laid to rest, and the earth gives sweet repose.

But when I looked again, they were gone! Though I searched for them, I could not find them!

Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love.Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean!

He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.

Remember that you made me from dust— will you turn me back to dust so soon?

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said,“ Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

You see me now, but not for long. You will look for me, but I will be gone.

What if I call the grave my father, and the maggot my mother or my sister?

Had I died at birth, I would now be at peace. I would be asleep and at rest.

Bring your confessions, and return to the Lord. Say to him,“ Forgive all our sins and graciously receive us, so that we may offer you our praises.

Tell me, what have I done wrong? Show me my rebellion and my sin.Why do you turn away from me? Why do you treat me as your enemy?

“ We have sinned and rebelled, and you have not forgiven us.“ You have engulfed us with your anger, chased us down, and slaughtered us without mercy.You have hidden yourself in a cloud so our prayers cannot reach you.

Why do you continue to forget us? Why have you abandoned us for so long?Restore us, O Lord, and bring us back to you again! Give us back the joys we once had!Or have you utterly rejected us? Are you angry with us still?

But those who die in the Lord will live; their bodies will rise again! Those who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy! For your life giving light will fall like dew on your people in the place of the dead!
