All of us get tripped up in many ways. Suppose someone is never wrong in what they say. Then they are perfect. They are able to keep their whole body under control.

Teach a wise person, and they will become even wiser. Teach a person who does right, and they will learn even more.

But who can know their own mistakes? Forgive my hidden faults.

I waited while you men spoke. I listened to your reasoning. While you were searching for words,

“ Job, listen now to my words. Pay attention to everything I say.

I said,“ I will be careful about how I live. I will not sin by what I say. I will keep my mouth closed when I am near sinful people.”So I was completely silent. I didn’t even say anything good. But the pain inside me grew worse.

I say to God,‘ Don’t find me guilty. Instead, tell me what charges you are bringing against me.

“ Job, these men are afraid. They don’t have anything else to say. They’ve run out of words.Do I have to keep on waiting, now that they are silent? They are just standing there with nothing to say.

I will guide you and teach you the way you should go. I will give you good advice and watch over you with love.

“ Pay attention, Job! Listen to me! Be quiet so I can speak.If you have anything to say, answer me. Speak up. I want to help you be cleared of all charges.But if you don’t have anything to say, listen to me. Be quiet so I can teach you how to be wise.”

Show me my sins that I’m not aware of. If I’ve done what is wrong, I won’t do it again.’

My dear brothers and sisters, pay attention to what I say. Everyone should be quick to listen. But they should be slow to speak. They should be slow to get angry.

“ We have carefully studied all these things. And they are true. So pay attention to them. Apply them to yourself.”
