Now you too have proved to be of no help; you see something dreadful and are afraid.

And now, my friends, you haven’t helped me either. You see the horrible condition I’m in. And that makes you afraid.

For you have now become nothing; you see my calamity and are afraid.

So this is what you have now become to me. When you see something dreadful, you are afraid.

Indeed, you have now become such, You see terrors and are afraid.

For now you are nothing, You see terror and are afraid.

For now ye are nothing; Ye see a terror, and are afraid.

So this is what you have now become to me. When you see something dreadful, you are afraid.

For now you have become like these streams that are no help; you see a terror, and are afraid.

My loved ones and friends stay away, fearing my disease. Even my own family stands at a distance.

The first time I was brought before the judge, no one came with me. Everyone abandoned me. May it not be counted against them.

Don’t put your trust in mere humans. They are as frail as breath. What good are they?

But this is all happening to fulfill the words of the prophets as recorded in the Scriptures.” At that point, all the disciples deserted him and fled.

Common people are as worthless as a puff of wind, and the powerful are not what they appear to be. If you weigh them on the scales, together they are lighter than a breath of air.

As for you, you smear me with lies. As physicians, you are worthless quacks.

My brothers, you have proved as unreliable as a seasonal brook that overflows its banks in the spring

The relatives of the poor despise them; how much more will their friends avoid them! Though the poor plead with them, their friends are gone.

In a single moment all the wealth of the city is gone!” And all the captains of the merchant ships and their passengers and sailors and crews will stand at a distance.They will cry out as they watch the smoke ascend, and they will say,“ Where is there another city as great as this?”

This is what the Lord says:“ Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord.They are like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future. They will live in the barren wilderness, in an uninhabited salty land.

On the way, Jesus told them,“ Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say,‘ God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’

We would have helped her if we could, but nothing can save her now. Let her go; abandon her. Return now to your own land. For her punishment reaches to the heavens; it is so great it cannot be measured.

And the kings of the world who committed adultery with her and enjoyed her great luxury will mourn for her as they see the smoke rising from her charred remains.They will stand at a distance, terrified by her great torment. They will cry out,“ How terrible, how terrible for you, O Babylon, you great city! In a single moment God’s judgment came on you.”

When three of Job’s friends heard of the tragedy he had suffered, they got together and traveled from their homes to comfort and console him. Their names were Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite.When they saw Job from a distance, they scarcely recognized him. Wailing loudly, they tore their robes and threw dust into the air over their heads to show their grief.Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and nights. No one said a word to Job, for they saw that his suffering was too great for words.
