So this is what you have now become to me. When you see something dreadful, you are afraid.

爾曹亦若此溪、使我失望、見我患難、悚然退懼。

今爾曹亦若是、見我可畏之患難則懼、

Now you too have proved to be of no help; you see something dreadful and are afraid.

And now, my friends, you haven’t helped me either. You see the horrible condition I’m in. And that makes you afraid.

For you have now become nothing; you see my calamity and are afraid.

You, too, have given no help. You have seen my calamity, and you are afraid.

So this is what you have now become to me. When you see something dreadful, you are afraid.

Indeed, you have now become such, You see terrors and are afraid.

For now you are nothing, You see terror and are afraid.

For now you have become like these streams that are no help; you see a terror, and are afraid.

Now when Job’s three friends— Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite— heard about all this adversity that had happened to him, each of them came from his home. They met together to go and sympathize with him and comfort him.When they looked from a distance, they could barely recognize him. They wept aloud, and each man tore his robe and threw dust into the air and on his head.Then they sat on the ground with him seven days and nights, but no one spoke a word to him because they saw that his suffering was very intense.
