But my brothers are as undependable as intermittent streams, as the streams that overflow

But my friends have stopped being kind to me. They are like streams that only flow for part of the year. They are like rivers that flow over their banks

My brothers, you have proved as unreliable as a seasonal brook that overflows its banks in the spring

My brothers are as treacherous as a wadi, as seasonal streams that overflow

My brothers have acted deceitfully like a wadi, Like the torrents of wadis which drain away,

My brothers have dealt deceitfully like a brook, Like the streams of the brooks that pass away,

Why is my pain unceasing, my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? Will you be to me like a deceitful brook, like waters that fail?

My friends and companions stand aloof from my plague, and my nearest kin stand far off.

Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.

All your lovers have forgotten you; they care nothing for you; for I have dealt you the blow of an enemy, the punishment of a merciless foe, because your guilt is great, because your sins are flagrant.

You have caused my beloved and my friend to shun me; my companions have become darkness.

Put no trust in a neighbor; have no confidence in a friend; guard the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your arms;for the son treats the father with contempt, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.

Let everyone beware of his neighbor, and put no trust in any brother, for every brother is a deceiver, and every neighbor goes about as a slanderer.Everyone deceives his neighbor, and no one speaks the truth; they have taught their tongue to speak lies; they weary themselves committing iniquity.
