“ If I were you, I’d make my appeal to God. I’d bring my case to be judged by him.

Call out to me when trouble comes. I will save you. And you will honor me.”

Commit your life to the Lord. Here is what he will do if you trust in him.

“ Job, obey God and be at peace with him. Then he will help you succeed.

Here is what people who suffer because of God’s plan should do. They should commit themselves to their faithful Creator. And they should continue to do good.

When Manasseh was in trouble, he asked the Lord his God to help him. He made himself very humble in the sight of the God of his people.Manasseh prayed to him. When he did, the Lord felt sorry for him. He answered his prayer. The Lord brought Manasseh back to Jerusalem and his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord is God.

You will pray to him, and he will hear you. You will keep the promises you made to him.

People shouted at him and made fun of him. But he didn’t do the same thing back to them. When he suffered, he didn’t say he would make them suffer. Instead, he trusted in the God who judges fairly.

That’s why I’m suffering the way I am. But this gives me no reason to be ashamed. That’s because I know who I have believed in. I am sure he is able to take care of what I have given him. I can trust him with it until the day he returns as judge.

I cried out to God for help. I cried out to God to hear me.When I was in trouble, I looked to the Lord for help. During the night I lifted up my hands in prayer. But I refused to be comforted.

Jacob was very worried and afraid. So he separated the people with him into two groups. He also separated the flocks and herds and camels.He thought,“ Esau might come and attack one group. If he does, the group that’s left can escape.”Then Jacob prayed,“ You are the God of my grandfather Abraham. You are the God of my father Isaac. Lord, you are the one who said to me,‘ Go back to your country and your relatives. Then I will give you success.’You have been very kind and faithful to me. But I’m not worthy of any of this. When I crossed this Jordan River, all I had was my walking stick. But now I’ve become two camps.Please save me from the hand of my brother Esau. I’m afraid he’ll come and attack me and the mothers with their children.But you have said,‘ I will surely give you success. I will make your children as many as the grains of sand on the seashore. People will not be able to count them.’ ”

But seek God with all your heart. Make your appeal to the Mighty One.

From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God.He said,“ When I was in trouble, I called out to the Lord. And he answered me. When I was deep in the place of the dead, I called out for help. And you listened to my cry.You threw me deep into the Mediterranean Sea. I was deep down in its waters. They were all around me. All your rolling waves were sweeping over me.I said,‘ I have been driven away from you. But I will look again toward your holy temple in Jerusalem.’I had almost drowned in the waves. The deep waters were all around me. Seaweed was wrapped around my head.I sank down to the bottom of the mountains. I thought I had died and gone down into the grave forever. But you are the Lord my God. You brought my life up from the very edge of the pit of death.“ When my life was nearly over, I remembered you, Lord. My prayer rose up to you. It reached you in your holy temple in heaven.
