“ But if I were you, I would appeal to God; I would lay my cause before him.

“ If I were you, I’d make my appeal to God. I’d bring my case to be judged by him.

Pray to me when you are in trouble! I will deliver you, and you will honor me!”

Commit your future to the LORD! Trust in him, and he will act on your behalf.

“ Reconcile yourself with God, and be at peace with him; in this way your prosperity will be good.

So then let those who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to a faithful Creator as they do good.

In his pain Manasseh asked the LORD his God for mercy and truly humbled himself before the God of his ancestors.When he prayed to the LORD, the LORD responded to him and answered favorably his cry for mercy. The LORD brought him back to Jerusalem to his kingdom. Then Manasseh realized that the LORD is the true God.

You will pray to him and he will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows to him.

When he was maligned, he did not answer back; when he suffered, he threatened no retaliation, but committed himself to God who judges justly.

Because of this, in fact, I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, because I know the one in whom my faith is set and I am convinced that he is able to protect what has been entrusted to me until that day.

But if you will look to God, and make your supplication to the Almighty,

Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the stomach of the fishand said,“ I called out to the LORD from my distress, and he answered me; from the belly of Sheol I cried out for help, and you heard my prayer.You threw me into the deep waters, into the middle of the sea; the ocean current engulfed me; all the mighty waves you sent swept over me.I thought I had been banished from your sight, that I would never again see your holy temple!Water engulfed me up to my neck; the deep ocean surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.I went down to the very bottoms of the mountains; the gates of the netherworld barred me in forever; but you brought me up from the Pit, O LORD, my God.When my life was ebbing away, I called out to the LORD, and my prayer came to your holy temple.
