“挑剔是非的，怎能與全能者爭辯呢？責備神的，回答這個問題吧。”

『好辯的哪可同全能者挑剔是非呢？譴責上帝的儘管回答呀。』

好駁折者、可與全能者爭論乎、與上帝辯者、尚其答之、

我全能之上帝也、爾昔欲與我辨、今何詞以對。

好辯者、欲與全能之主爭乎、與天主辯者、今可答之、

“ Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!”

“ I am the Mighty One. Will the man who argues with me correct me? Let him who brings charges against me answer me!”

“ Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”

“ Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?”

Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who argues with God give an answer.

“ Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who rebukes God give an answer.”

Shall he that cavilleth contend with the Almighty? He that argueth with God, let him answer it.

Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? Let him who argues with God give an answer.

Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct[ him]? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

“ Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let the person who accuses God give him an answer!”

“ Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”

For“ who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Why do you contend with Him? For He does not give an accounting of any of His words.

With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him the way of understanding?

Withdraw Your hand far from me, And let not the dread of You make me afraid.Then call, and I will answer; Or let me speak, then You respond to me.How many are my iniquities and sins? Make me know my transgression and my sin.Why do You hide Your face, And regard me as Your enemy?Will You frighten a leaf driven to and fro? And will You pursue dry stubble?For You write bitter things against me, And make me inherit the iniquities of my youth.You put my feet in the stocks, And watch closely all my paths. You set a limit for the soles of my feet.

“ For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become His counselor?”“ Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?”For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

For He crushes me with a tempest, And multiplies my wounds without cause.He will not allow me to catch my breath, But fills me with bitterness.

Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, And whom God has hedged in?

“ Woe to him who strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him who forms it,‘ What are you making?’ Or shall your handiwork say,‘ He has no hands’?Woe to him who says to his father,‘ What are you begetting?’ Or to the woman,‘ What have you brought forth?’”Thus says the Lord, The Holy One of Israel, and his Maker:“ Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons; And concerning the work of My hands, you command Me.

If one wished to contend with Him, He could not answer Him one time out of a thousand.

“ What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying:‘ The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children’s teeth are set on edge’?

Know then that God has wronged me, And has surrounded me with His net.“ If I cry out concerning wrong, I am not heard. If I cry aloud, there is no justice.He has fenced up my way, so that I cannot pass; And He has set darkness in my paths.He has stripped me of my glory, And taken the crown from my head.He breaks me down on every side, And I am gone; My hope He has uprooted like a tree.He has also kindled His wrath against me, And He counts me as one of His enemies.

“ Why is light given to him who is in misery, And life to the bitter of soul,

“ As God lives, who has taken away my justice, And the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,

You will say to me then,“ Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?”But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it,“ Why have you made me like this?”Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory,

He is near who justifies Me; Who will contend with Me? Let us stand together. Who is My adversary? Let him come near Me.

And when they had received it, they complained against the landowner,

Does it seem good to You that You should oppress, That You should despise the work of Your hands, And smile on the counsel of the wicked?Do You have eyes of flesh? Or do You see as man sees?Are Your days like the days of a mortal man? Are Your years like the days of a mighty man,That You should seek for my iniquity And search out my sin,Although You know that I am not wicked, And there is no one who can deliver from Your hand?

For now You number my steps, But do not watch over my sin.My transgression is sealed up in a bag, And You cover my iniquity.

How long? Will You not look away from me, And let me alone till I swallow my saliva?Have I sinned? What have I done to You, O watcher of men? Why have You set me as Your target, So that I am a burden to myself?Why then do You not pardon my transgression, And take away my iniquity? For now I will lie down in the dust, And You will seek me diligently, But I will no longer be.”

“ For He is not a man, as I am, That I may answer Him, And that we should go to court together.Nor is there any mediator between us, Who may lay his hand on us both.Let Him take His rod away from me, And do not let dread of Him terrify me.Then I would speak and not fear Him, But it is not so with me.

If I sin, then You mark me, And will not acquit me of my iniquity.If I am wicked, woe to me; Even if I am righteous, I cannot lift up my head. I am full of disgrace; See my misery!If my head is exalted, You hunt me like a fierce lion, And again You show Yourself awesome against me.You renew Your witnesses against me, And increase Your indignation toward me; Changes and war are ever with me.

“ Why did I not die at birth? Why did I not perish when I came from the womb?Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breasts, that I should nurse?

Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?

But You have become cruel to me; With the strength of Your hand You oppose me.

Am I a sea, or a sea serpent, That You set a guard over me?

God has delivered me to the ungodly, And turned me over to the hands of the wicked.I was at ease, but He has shattered me; He also has taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces; He has set me up for His target,His archers surround me. He pierces my heart and does not pity; He pours out my gall on the ground.He breaks me with wound upon wound; He runs at me like a warrior.“ I have sewn sackcloth over my skin, And laid my head in the dust.My face is flushed from weeping, And on my eyelids is the shadow of death;Although no violence is in my hands, And my prayer is pure.“ O earth, do not cover my blood, And let my cry have no resting place!Surely even now my witness is in heaven, And my evidence is on high.My friends scorn me; My eyes pour out tears to God.Oh, that one might plead for a man with God, As a man pleads for his neighbor!

Whatever one is, he has been named already, For it is known that he is man; And he cannot contend with Him who is mightier than he.
