Therefore, people revere him, for does he not have regard for all the wise in heart?”

That’s why they have respect for him. He cares about all those who are wise.”

Therefore men fear him; he does not regard any who are wise in their own conceit.”

No wonder people everywhere fear him. All who are wise show him reverence.”

Men do therefore fear him: He regardeth not any that are wise of heart.

Therefore men revere him. He doesn’t regard any who are wise of heart.”

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight.

But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

He catches the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are swept away.

Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but tremble.For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.

“ I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written:“ He catches the wise in their craftiness”;

I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me and that all will then go well for them and for their children after them.

At that time Jesus said,“ I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the Lord and to his blessings in the last days.

At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said,“ I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.’
