「我心若因婦人受迷惑，在鄰舍的門外等候，

我的心若迷戀女人，在鄰居的門口窺探，

我的心若被女人迷惑，在別人的門口埋伏，

『我的心若因人的妻子而受迷惑，而在鄰舍門外蹲伏着，

如我心為婦女所惑、窺伺鄰舍之門、

如我為婦女所惑、或瞷人不在而誘其妻、

如我心為婦女所惑、如我心為婦女所惑或作若我心迷惑向婦女起淫念在比鄰之門外窺伺、

“ If my heart has been enticed by a woman, or if I have lurked at my neighbor’s door,

“ Suppose my heart has been tempted by a woman. Or suppose I’ve prowled around my neighbor’s home.

“ If my heart has been enticed toward a woman, and I have lain in wait at my neighbor’s door,

“ If my heart has been seduced by a woman, or if I have lusted for my neighbor’s wife,

If my heart has gone astray over a woman or I have lurked at my neighbor’s door,

“ If my heart has been enticed by a woman, Or I have lurked at my neighbor’s doorway,

If my heart hath been enticed unto a woman, And I have laid wait at my neighbor’s door;

If my heart has been seduced by my neighbor’s wife or I have lurked at his door,

If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or[ if] I have laid wait at my neighbour’s door;

If my heart has been enticed by a woman, and I have lain in wait at my neighbor’s door,

“ If my heart has been enticed to a woman, and I have laid wait at my neighbor’s door,

And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her,“ Entice him, and find out where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and every one of us will give you eleven hundred pieces of silver.”

And I find more bitter than death The woman whose heart is snares and nets, Whose hands are fetters. He who pleases God shall escape from her, But the sinner shall be trapped by her.

For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David.

Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations there was no king like him, who was beloved of his God; and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless pagan women caused even him to sin.

They were like well-fed lusty stallions; Every one neighed after his neighbor’s wife.

The mouth of an immoral woman is a deep pit; He who is abhorred by the Lord will fall there.

“ They are all adulterers. Like an oven heated by a baker— He ceases stirring the fire after kneading the dough, Until it is leavened.

The eye of the adulterer waits for the twilight, Saying,‘ No eye will see me’; And he disguises his face.In the dark they break into houses Which they marked for themselves in the daytime; They do not know the light.

To deliver you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words,Who forsakes the companion of her youth, And forgets the covenant of her God.For her house leads down to death, And her paths to the dead;None who go to her return, Nor do they regain the paths of life—

Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.

With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, With her flattering lips she seduced him.

For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey, And her mouth is smoother than oil;But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.Her feet go down to death, Her steps lay hold of hell.Lest you ponder her path of life— Her ways are unstable; You do not know them.Therefore hear me now, my children, And do not depart from the words of my mouth.Remove your way far from her, And do not go near the door of her house,Lest you give your honor to others, And your years to the cruel one;Lest aliens be filled with your wealth, And your labors go to the house of a foreigner;And you mourn at last, When your flesh and your body are consumed,And say:“ How I have hated instruction, And my heart despised correction!I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me!I was on the verge of total ruin, In the midst of the assembly and congregation.”Drink water from your own cistern, And running water from your own well.Should your fountains be dispersed abroad, Streams of water in the streets?Let them be only your own, And not for strangers with you.Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice with the wife of your youth.As a loving deer and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; And always be enraptured with her love.For why should you, my son, be enraptured by an immoral woman, And be embraced in the arms of a seductress?For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, And He ponders all his paths.His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, And he is caught in the cords of his sin.He shall die for lack of instruction, And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
