我要懲罰你們，使你們陷入恐慌、患癆病和熱症，使你們眼睛昏花、心力衰竭。你們撒種卻一無所獲，因為敵人要吃盡你們所種的。

你撒種，卻不得收割；你榨橄欖，卻無油抹身；你踩葡萄，卻無酒可喝。

「你們種的多，卻收的少，因為莊稼必被蝗蟲吃掉。

「你們聘了妻子，別人必佔有她；你們蓋了房屋，必不能住在裡面；你們栽種葡萄園，必吃不到園中的出產。「你們必看著自己的牛被宰殺卻吃不到肉，自己的驢被搶走後一去不還，自己的羊被敵人擄走卻無人搭救，自己的兒女被外族人擄走，你們終日望眼欲穿，卻無能為力。「與你們素不相識的民族必吃光你們土地的出產和勞碌所得，你們必常受欺壓，

他在本族中無子無孫，他所居之地無人生還。

他留不住勞碌的成果，無法享用所賺的財富。

他們要吃光你們的牛羊、五穀、新酒和油，直到消滅你們。

他們割田間的草料，摘惡人剩餘的葡萄。

他無法逃脫黑暗，火焰要燒焦他的嫩枝，上帝口中的氣要毀滅他。

願他斷子絕孫，他的姓氏傳不到下一代。

他的兒女毫無安寧，在城門口受欺壓也無人搭救。饑餓的人吞掉他的莊稼，連荊棘裡的也不放過；乾渴的人吞盡他的財富。

每當他們撒種的時候，米甸人、亞瑪力人及東方人就前來進犯，在他們境內安營，摧毀他們遠至迦薩一帶的莊稼，不給他們留下任何糧食，也不留下一隻羊、一頭牛或驢。入侵者帶著牲畜和帳篷像蝗蟲一樣湧來，人和駱駝不計其數，摧毀了整個地區。以色列人因米甸人的入侵而極其貧乏，就呼求耶和華。
